Whats up all?
Anyone into M&K ? In years past I have Installed the full THX system. I have aquired a M&K MX125 sub which is in pretty good shape. It's an older model probably like 2004 or so? Not really sure didn't research it yet to figure out it's exact date.

Anyway I decided to add it into my system and see how she plays. To my surprise and delight, she is very smooth and clean. I really dig her ability to play nice with others. She blends in to the point I can't tell if the ST's are making the bass or she is.

One thing about her I don't like is her looks. She is a very commercial looking sub. doesn't fit will in our decor. She is flat black and has a huge square vent in the front. Not sure if it's functional as I have yet to study her. She is however a sealed push pull design which there is a inward firing 12 inch woofer in her belly. Then a front firing 12 inch firing out. They push and pull each other perfectly which I feel is why she is so musical and smooth. I wish I had a nice pair of bookshelf speakers to wire in so I can seamlessly blend them to make beautiful music. For now I crossed her over at 50 hz with no phase meaning 0. This is in my left front corner about 16 inch out and 5 inches from the back wall. It doesn't load which I'm happy about.

I may sell it , I may keep it but one thing is for sure I do like it. I don't think the wife will let me keep her as I said she doesn't go well in the room but she sure fills it with very nice bass. I think she would really make for a perfect 2 channel sub.

I'll post some pics

    Dan:

daboyz's brother had a MK sub, dave sold it on the forum I think. If its a looks issue, why not try to make yourself a grill to cover the uglyness?

I too can understand the "ugly" look, however I have a pass on my new acquisition since if the sub goes, the cat we are fostering will go too ...

I ran a Sweep on it yesterday and it absolutely hits 24hz with only 2db loss. I actually put out a 22hz signal with 4db loss. At 20hz she dropped to 6db in room response but still played the signal. When I dropped to 18 she started to flubber and dropped another 3db.
It's very impressive as I mentioned before. I wish I had the front grill, IMO she is a keeper. I'm gonna keep her in the system until my wife starts to give me a hard time about it. I told her I was testing it and would probably sell it to a good home but honestly I'm not really into that move.

I ran some music and changed some settings taking away the bass from the ST's and ran them at 80hz small. I blended the sub in manually and bumped up to 100hz. Surprisingly she just went away into the room and it really sounded like the ST's where on their own. One thing I hate about most subwoofers is the NON ABILITY to play music believable. Most subs sound like they are exploding and overly punchy making unrealistic sound like a Samsung LED making video , it just sucks. Not the case with this paper coated driver sub, she sounds real and almost commercial like Pro gear which is what makes the sound in the first place.
I also ran Star Wars Ep1 , IMO this movie is a reference disc and has some incredible sound on it. When Darth Maul and OB1 go at it , it's an intense swirl of amazing sound. The Cracks and clashes are loud and clear. You also have to have some dynamic speakers to play this scene correctly with a amp that can match that extreme dynamic range. The Def Techs do this with ease being pushed by the SC-68. With the M&K MX125 II handling the lowest octaves( I recalibrated it back to 50hz ), this scene is deep strong and clear. I also ran the entire ending battle which has some intense explosions. The M&K handled everything so smoothly. I couldn't really tell if the ST's where doing the job or the M&K was finishing off the last note as all 3 of my subs went together like they where made to.
I find that like a REL quality. I'd love to get my hands on a full M&K system. I remember years ago being blown away , I'm blown away again and this isn't the top dog sub. I believe she retails for only $1200.00.
