I have a chance to pick up these babies locally. The guy is asking $800. Do you guys think it is a fair price for a mint pair? Thanks.

You guys with big SDA always make me tempting. But I think the 3.1 TL will save me from troubles with the wife.

I think thats a pretty good price. Drenis has a set so maybe send him a PM to inquire how much he paid (if he hasnt posted it in a thread somewhere).

Those are pretty good SDA's from what I have read so I think they are worth picking up if they dont need an insane amount of work.

Thanks. It is about 100 miles round trip and I have to borrow a truck from my uncle. But it is not too bad compared to how far Grizwald had to drive to get his new toys hehe.

Offer 500 bucks if they are in mint condition. 800 is way to high IMHO, as that is the bottom range for the 2.3 TL's. I think you could probably get them for 600, and that would be a nice deal.

Local pick up, so no shipping costs. They don't make them any more and they don't come up that often. Of course, you should try to bargain, but if he won't come down, pay the man.

Unless you are dying for a pair of 3.1TL's, $800 is way too high.
    Max $500 in my opinion.

I own a pair of 3.1TL's and IMO I would listen to F1nut.

It may be high but if I had the money, they were local, in mint condition and in an area where they don't come up often, I would pay that price. Like others said, offer less and see what he says, I'm sure he would wiggle some with a price that high.

I agree that $800 is too high. I got my almost perfect condition SRS 2s with paperwork for $500.

I did offer $600. He wants $750 firm though. From the pictures I can tell that the pair is mint and the guy seems to know how to take care of his stuff. $750 is not that bad but I have to convince the wife that I actually got a good deal since I bought a lot of stuff lately.

But these are TL's. I mean, SDA 1C's go for $600.00, so $800 for 3.1TL's is not a bad deal.

Someone here paid $500 for 1.2TL's. Does that mean the guy that paid $3000 over paid? I think not, it's just that $500 buyer stole the effers.

16 midwoofers valued at roughly $40 a piece = $640. Throw in the other components, and its a solid price.

Last time I checked, they have total of 10 mid woofers.

Parting out may get more but I'd expect $25 for each mid after fees/shipping and work.

They are the "rarest" of the SDA models.

I looked for a perfect pair for several years before I bought mine.

I not only paid $750.00, but had to get them from 450 miles away.

And I still felt lucky to have been able to get them. They sound so fantastic in the smallish room I have to use them in that I am completely satisfied.

And I have several other modes of Polk SDA speakers. 2.3s and a set of SRTs. They still sound the best in my room than the others.

And I got the 2.3s for $500.00 and only had to drive an hour to get them.

Now the modding shall begin. I already have the rings and Dynamat, just saving up for the crossover mods.

    Is he the original owner?

Are they in excellent original condition with SDA cable, owners manual and sales receipt?

    $750 is a good deal.

If you don't get them help us out and tell us where they are.

Make sure you have a good room to put them in, I don't think a small room will work. I have heard most of the SDA line, I currently have a completely modded pair of 1C's that I love and work well for my set up. The 3.1TL's are among the few I have never heard but would love to hear some day.

If its worth it to you, get them. Otherwise you can wait it out for another pair...

I would not let my room size stop me unless you have something smaller than 14 x 16 even then these will be harder and harder to find you can always find a room.

    Good point, Polkieman.

Its the age old question with SDA's... Can you find a new speaker today for "that" price ( whatever the seller is asking) that will sound that good? I would have a hard time finding a pair of speakers for $750 that could do what a pair of 3.1 TL's could do.

I know that is a lot higher than some have paid for these models but its something I consider when buying certain things, and I HATE over paying. I guess it comes down to how much its worth to the buyer. I love a good deal but once in while you have to pay more and IMO this is not THAT bad of a deal.

I wouldn't hesitate at $750. The 3.1's (in that condition, I've seen the listing) are a bargain at that price. Upgrade them as time and money will allow and you will quite happy. Remember, the ole dollar just isn't what it used to be.

You must be in my neck of the woods. I've seen these listed locally and been tempted, but don't need another large pair of SDA's. Yes, you may have an opportunity some day to get them cheaper. Maybe. Maybe not. These look to be in great shape and if your looking for the 3.1TL's I wouldn't hesistate. In fact, I'd secure them IMMEDIATLY before someone else scoops them up. Just my .02, and no, I'm not the owner....
SDA SRS modded: X’ovrd, de-polyed, inductorized, interconnectorized, re-posted, dynamited, RDO’d, spiked, gasketed, ringed (Larry's), and grill cloth blinged! Done this on my own? Not a chance. Thanks to Raife and all who forged easy to follow upgrades. At least a 100% improvement in sound and my personal listening pleasure! :cheesygrin:Pass XP-10 preamp, Parasound A21 amp, Pioneer Elite DV-58AV (Ric Shultz modded), Audioquest Sky IC's, No longer need my Sunfire sub after mods...
