Anybody have any experience with this unit? I understand that it's a rebadged SC61. I saw it at Costco for $469. Would it be a major upgrade from my Elite VSX01?

I have not heard it, but i believe it has the class D amplification. The vsx-01 is direct energy. Like my vsx-23 is too and i have also considered going class.D

I have one and totally love it. Here is a useless thread:

This has been my favorite budget AVR of all time. Hard to go wrong with this one.

I too am very satisfied with the 1222k. One note is that if you want to connect it via wireless network is not purchase the Pioneer wireless adapter. There are tons of reports of problems with it on the net. As much as I am not a Netgear fan I bought their wireless bridge and it works very well.

I had the 1222k and found the 1522k on sale at Costco for $549.99 new. Returned the 1222k and got the 1522k. 9.2 with pre-outs and 12v triggers. Also the network app and airplay works excellent. Don't forget to upgrade the firmware via USB formatted to FAT16 or FAT32.

I have a 1222k i got off ebay for $70 (it had protection circuit tripped but I reset it with no problems).

Love it. Not as hefty as my SC-35 but it gets the job done with no problems.

Bringing the Class D3 amps to the entry level models was a great idea. I'd like to see Pioneer only offer this.

I'm using my SC-07 for 7.1, pushing the rear RTiA9s, CSiA6, FXiA6s. Front preouts to Yamaha P7000S -> RTIa9s. AppleTV for wireless ALAC.

Any reason to think a newer D3 Pioneer would be an improvement in audio?

I owned the SC-07 and upgraded last year to the Mighty SC-68 which IMO was a slight Improvement in overall sound quality. I did a pretty extensive Shootout between the 2. A year before that I took home the SC-57 and didn't find it to be enough of an upgrade to move the SC-07 out of my system. As there was a few things about the SC-57 I liked over the SC-07 , the sound quality was even smaller in the differences for some reason. From what I understand the SC-57 and SC-68 share very a similar amp section. It must be more in the pre amp side of things that made the differences I heard when compelled me to make the move.

Another very compelling reason to look at the newer models well the flagship anyway is the built in USB DAC which by far is a superior upgrade. This internal DAC compares to many under $1000.00 DAC's I have tested and I have tested many in my home in my own system with my wire etc. Today you will find a even more upgraded DAC then the one in mine in the SC-79 which I keep looking at and think I should take one home and give it a run.

Whats very nice about the SC-07 is that it has Wolfson DAC's which Pioneer got away from in newer models which I thought lost a bit of sound quality in the Burr Browns they started using in the SC-27 up. Burr Brown is the industry standard which ALL DAC chipsets are compared to and try to match or beat. When the SC-27 came out , I was juiced and then lost my juice quickly. Same went for the SC-37 which by the way are extremely fine AVR's but I felt my SC-07 sounded better then those to year models. The SC-57 was the first model that I thought could match or beat the SC-07.

So really it's about what your looking for. I honestly could have my SC-07 and be very happy with the overall performance. But You couldn't make that trade with me now that I have lived with the SC-68 for so long. I love it's overall sound quality and think it's the best under $3000.00 receiver on the market today or I would own the other.

THANX Dan, I appreciate your perspective, as I knew you were rolling up experiences with the SC lineup. I got the SC-07 & RTi line without an audition, based upon owner feedback here & the avsforum. I have no regrets.
