Using a switched outlet on a vintage receiver

I would like to plug a newer CD player into the switched outlet on a vintage receiver but the CD plug has a wider prong and the receiver will not accept it. Is there a preferred adapter for this type of situation?

It's called a wall outlet. Chances are a cheater plug will also have the polarized plug also.

As a rule of thumb never use the plugs in the back of a vintage reciever for obvious reasons ( old, vintage may not be up to snuff ect.) . Use a surge resistor and plug everything into that.

Seconded. I would not recommend it for lighting and power-transformerless equipment, where the neutral side may be connected to the metal case, but on gear like a CD player it is fine to file down the wider prong. The current draw of the average CD player is at most about 250mA-300mA at 120V, and not an issue being powered from a switched outlet of a vintage receiver.

I have filed polarized plugs down also. I haven't experienced any problems.

I used to run a extension cord off a switched outlet to multiple things operate small stuff like a cd player turntable etc just make sure you dont take a lot of power from that plug most are marked and if you use only one item at a time you should be safe ,
the polerized plug was added for safety
