Great pick up. If I came home with four more SDAs I'd be dodging lead from the wife's 357.

I'm so glad it's not just my wife! What is it with women and great sounding Polk's? They really don't take up much room hehe.

So I disconnected my SDA SRS's today and rocked both pair today just to hear them sing. Played Tim McGraw - Red Rag Top. I was blown away how good they sounded compared to the big Polk's. I have never heard any other Polk's besides my SRS's. I was very impressed. I can't wait to hear them modded.

Man I've been busy lately. So much to read on this forum. I have been ordering parts on Mouser to re-cap the 3 Yamaha M-80s I have. Looking up all these old part numbers and making sure you have ordered enough and the correct replacement parts is time consuming. I thought while I have an order in my cart I'd ask the experts here if their is any thing I need to order for my Polk SDA's while I'm at it. As some of you know I have the original SDA's. I also acquired two sets of SDA 1C's. I will be upgrading all speakers in time but for now I think its time to start ordering parts for the crossover in the big SDA's. Is there a list of part numbers and places to order from or is it all a matter of weeding through all the experts posts here and deciding for your self? I'm all up for someone who has the knowledge and done it already just telling me what to order and where to order. Is there a list or lists depending on how much money you want to spend. Thanks in advance.

Go here http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?55888-POLK-AUDIO-Speaker-Wiring-Schematics-amp-More-Stereo-Dimensional-Array(SDA) and bring up the schematics for your speakers. You can get the cap and resistor values and number of each to order. Most go with Sonicap caps and Mills 12 Watt resistors, which can be found here http://www.soniccraft.com/ They're having a 20% off sale so it's a good time to order.

Strongly recommend buying gimpod custom boards for mounting your crossover components on. He's got a really nice site which will help with ordering and parts placement. Try this link: http://www.gimpod.com/parts1c.html

What helped me the most w/ my mods were DarqueKnights in depth tutorials under 'Speaker wiring and schematics and more' for SDA under Vintage Speakers. These take you step by step with whatever you may doing at the time w/ tool lists part lists and time the job should take a novice to do it. I was very impressed and when it was time for my 87'2Bs to get modded I refered to his posts. I don't think you ever mentioned if both of those sets came w/ the i/c cable which of course would be the cherry on a very tall Sundae. Also you have the darker tops which I have do to deep water stains and are my favorite go speakers of them all.I know this is ages old already but still 2 pair in one day is pretty impressive.

Thanks Leftwonger 57 I will look at his tutoorials. I got the interconnect cable with one set blade blade. They both were in what I would call mint condition. One set is blade pin, did not get that cable but not worried as I'm probable going to re do the connections to banana anyway. My greatest asset now is I'm in no hurry. I have to have that mind set. I just want to slowly research and acquire all the parts and then have some fun installing it all making friends on this board along the way. Might be backwards but I want to tackle the crossovers on the big Polk's first. The 1C's will get a total disassemble in the garage. The big SDA's will remain in the living room and I will take the crossovers out and rebuild them first. Somewhere along the process I will acquire new 194's for all six....damn that's 12 tweeters! plan to do speakers rings and the whole slew of things I keep reading on this forum. So glad I found this board. I have always loved my big Polk's and someday hope to power four of them in a future no women allowed man cave. (we all know how much our wives love the big Polk's hehe)

When I 1st joined up here I knew nothing of Polk and the whole SDA rap. That's what I was hearing for 3 years and questioning how good or different can these speakers be. My opportunity came w/ a moving sale I offered $50 she said yes and the rest as they ,you know. Now,as for my mods I had to do it piecemeal finding free Dynamat cheap c-clamps,C/L Black Hole-5 and just could not afford to do it in one shot. Many here have gone to what I think is extreme but for them it's heaven like new binding posts, larger internal wiring, new i/c cable and some more. For me tweeters which were not ready till this month and the other stuff was done at seperate times. Some think it's ok, I had to and w/ my thinking the more you start to pull things apart something bad just might happen. It's your football so do them any way you want and take as long as it takes but one thing for sure it does make a difference. You seem not to shy away from doing the x-overs yourself, me I wouldn't go near them and when I'm ready they will go out to Trey @VR-3 a name you will hear a lot about here.Oh by your pix they do indeed look mint. It's leftwinger or just Lew...lol lol
