SRS 2 with no SDA Effect

The other day I was listening to my SRS-2 blade/blade hooked up to a Dynaco ST-70 and the SDA effect was off. I ran the balance to the left and the right SDA Drivers were working, when I ran the balance to the right the left SDA drivers/tweeter were not working. I popped the passive out and wiggled everything I could checking for loose connections with no luck. Pulled the drivers and checked them with a ohm meter and they check within spec. I still think it's a loose connection somewhere, any ideas where to start?

Check the SDA cable and the sockets.

Checked the cable and the socket in the "bad" speakers. Both tested fine using my VOM. I set my meter to the short setting so it would beep if a current was able to pass through and I got a beep on everything I tried.

Check the other IC socket also and if that isn't it pull the crossovers from both speakers and check for bad or lose solder joints, Don't forget to label all connections before pulling the crossovers.

Would a loose connection in the the right speaker cause the SDA drivers and tweeter not to work in the left speaker? I hope to get into the right speaker tomorrow after I mow.

Each of those blade/blade speaker cabinets sends a full-range, full-voltage signal to the opposite cabinet. Thus the reason for BOTH of the conductors in the blade/blade interconnect cable being used. Yes, if one speaker cabinet has faulty wiring, the other cabinet might not get the SDA signal, and the SDA effect will be missing.

Also check that the wires from the amp are in phase. I got my 1Bs out of phase one time, no SDA. I did all the continuity tests etc, found nothing. Finally checked the wires from the amp, one side was wired out of phase.

I had a pinched wire in my SDA cable between the cabinet and the inductor cup when I rewired mine, and that was enough to throw off the SDA signal. I had to go top to bottom and check every connector, solder joint, etc.

I would say there is a crossover issue. If it was a cable then it would stop it from working both ways not just one. Take the crossover out and take a good look at the molex connectors and also make sure all the solder is good and not ringed out.

No. With blade/blade SDAs, one conductor or one connection of the two on each end of the SDA cable or sockets could be bad, destroying the SDA effect on one cabinet, and having absolutely no effect on the other.
