RM6000 set's subwoofer suddenly began to hum loudly

My subwoofer is ailing. Yesterday, while I was listening to a video, the volume suddenly got real loud and then my subwoofer started to hum ( like when a microphone or something feeds back) and it still does this even with my Denon AVR off. I tried the "cheater plug" trick to remove the ground from the 120-V source of power, but no go; still hums loudly! Please help.

Make sure all subwoofer signal connections are securely plugged in.
