I'm trying to set up a small speaker system for my TV, and I was looking around for things to buy and came up with this setup:
http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PTA2-2x40W-Stereo-Amplifier/dp/B0013CDZDI/ref=cm_rdp_product
with
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SSF-5000-Floor-Standing-Speaker/dp/B000OG4E1G
Here are the basic stats for the amp,
2 x 40 Watt RMS at 4 Ohm
Frequency Response: 20 Hz-20 kHz
and the basic stats for the speakers:
Frequency Response Curve 45-50,000Hz
Audio Sensitivity 88 dB
Impedance 8 ohm
Now, I researched this a bit, and I was worried about the fact that the amp is only 40 watts per channel. I read a lot of things and understand that the speaker wattage is the max wattage, and that 40 watts should actually be plenty to handle for this setup, but I just want to make sure.
Anybody have any input on whether this is an okay setup or the two things don't match up?
Thanks

That amp puts out 40w @ 4 ohms and those speakers are 8 ohms. You're only going to be feeding them 20-30 watts and this is from a unit that is 5.4 x 7.5 x 2.8 inches and 4.4 pounds? I think I'd pass.
Take your $250 to the used market and you'll do much, much better. Get an actual receiver/AVR.

That's a crappy a$$ pro amp. Besides that it will not work with a TV set. What you'll need is an AVR or 2 channel receiver capable of handling video.Political Correctness'.........defined

if you are wanting a low cost way to boost your television's sound, there are more and more Soundbars coming out that do a good job. Some are also accompanied by a small sub. Some also have side-firing speakers that really help with stereo separation.Panasonic SMART VIERA 60" Class GT50 Series Full HD 3D Plasma HDTV/TC-P60GT50
