Selling your services to forum members with that infamous 10 day warranty to boot on a Adcom amp, eh?

What are the specs after your mods? Have you done A/B tests on the sound quality? The reason I ask these important questions is that Adcom amps have never sounded good to me, actually the top end is very grainy and I'm wondering if your mods do anything for that problem.

As a business man, I offer a lifetime warranty on my services. The warranty is very simple. For life, yours or mine. A 10 day warranty is nonsense, might as well not offer one at all. May I suggest you offer a warranty of at least 90 days with the same catch all phrase others use, except for user abuse. It really will inspire greater confidence in your services.

This is a personal word to the wise. You are barking up the wrong tree with regards the George and you're making yourself look very foolish to the members here. He is a long time, well respected member and you are new, tread lightly.

    Well said, Jesse, well said.

I take it as a sign of integrity that someone is willing to stand behind his work unconditionally. Just my opinon.

You know, I have a similar opinion of Adcom amps as well, however, I'm not presumptuous enough to bash other folks gear or call the designer deaf. I just won't buy them and if someone asks, I'll give my opinion with the caveat that we don't all hear things the same way.

Cracks in the ranks? This isn't anyones personal gang. Folks can do what they want. Lemme guess though, one person is interested and oh, I'll bet it's Sid.

    Jesse,

Advice is well taken if given with respect. The way you put it, I do feel that maybe I should give a 90 day warranty. I never put much thought into it when I did the 10 day thing. At that time I was trying to give a DOA guarantee in my mind. I might re-think and take your advice, thats if I want to keep selling that service, as I said earlier, my interests are waning. Its too much work for too little reward. I have a full-time job elsewhere and this is not my livelihood, like with others on the forum, it just keeps the hi-fi hobby going.

To answer some of your questions, the fact that the (primarily the 555) is grainy with a screechy top end is one of the reasons I think the 555 needs a hop up.

Let me explain, there are mainly two schools of amplifier designers, one that delve in making the amplifier distortion free to the nth degree, To this school I find reputed designers like Douglas Self, Randy Slone, John Curl and others. They do what they think is best for audio. But sometimes in pursuit of reducing distortion, the actual sonics are neglected in favor of better numbers. This brings me to the other group of designers like Nelson Pass (Forte, Threshold, Pass Labs), Dan D'Agostino (Krell) and others. These gentlemen focus on the actual sonics and make (IMHO) lovely sounding amps BUT they have much higher distortion than the amps made by the first group of illustrious designers.

There is this eternal battle between the measureable quality of amps and the hearable. Both have their strengths and followers.
I find myself siding more with the second group, there will be many of those who disagree but thats one mans opinion.

I find that one of the many variables that has bearing on the distortionless vs. nice sounding amp theory is the amount of negative feedback designers use. This is the variable I modify to give people a warmer sounding amp. Again some people will hate it that way but I know many people that do like it that way and those find a common cause in curing this ill of the 555 that I find and that you mention.

About Bob Carver, Troy's fixation on that one statement that I made maybe in the dead of night half asleep (and stubbornly stuck to it since )is carrying things a tad far. As I said he is a well respected designer but I do not think his amps sound good (except the few exceptions). The reason why I may have referred to him as deaf (which was not polite) was that before in my student days when I could afford Carver amps, I used to sit up and read about his designs and dream of owning one of his amps... well when I did save some of my hard earned $$$, I went and got myself a Sunfire Signature and you would not believe how disappointed I was in the sound of that amp... my personal disappointment may have resurfaced when I made the statement (but Troy I am sticking to it LOL).

I have done A/B comparisions and like the sound compared to stock, that again is one man's opinion.

George has been abusive and no one would respond to the kind. I really do not care who he is, if he does not convey respect, he will get none from here. However I will take your advice and tread lightly unless he gets abusive again (which I am very sure he will).

So as long as you have the moral courage to realize what George did was wrong too, I will respect your advice and back down, I have no interests in festering this exchange of abuse.

    MA.

Go cry on somebody elses shoulder about respect. It's a two-way street, and I HAVE NO respect for a smug dude, who jumps in on a forum where some people have been for 4 or 5 years, starts soliciting money, makes some dumbass statements about ten day warrantees, and then in the same paragraph says most failures are user oriented. Then has revelations about MAYBE offering 90 day warrantees. I don't care who faults me for feeling that way.

Maybe you got somebodies money, maybe you didn't. As far as I'm concerned, you can take the entire affair and stick it up your ****.

It's nobodys fault but your own that you're not having fun here. I'm having a blast. Nobody worships me you fool. They just know a line of **** when they heareth one. My DAUGHTERS would know better than to line up for a ten day warranty, AND THEY'RE GIRLS!!!

You walk onto this forum selling a mod. Advertising a link to your e-bay thing. Lotta nerve there. THEN, a ten day warranty? THEN, if it blows it's because of abuse? Nobody knows how to work a power amp? Get out of here will you please? You are a fool. Nobody likes you. Get a dog, they are fairly impartial (although in your case I wouldn't be surprised if even a dog was particular about hanging around). Please go away. Please STAY away. It was fun at first, but now you are making a pest of yourself in ADDITION to being a fool. GO AWAY! I DON'T think anybody will buy your mod here. GO AWAY.

This whole thread is surreal. First somebody asked about some amp terms that defines to a being bridged. All the while it's jacked into name calling argument concerning an amp mod (which wasn't what the thread started as). All that over four years ago ... and then it resurfaces like a perverted Ghost of Christmas Past!
