Do the black bars affect the screen on some widescreen movies?

What about the grey ones?

What is the best calibrator dvd for my system?

Chill out dude, give it more than 30 minutes.
Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

I'm not entirely sure about your question regarding bars. Are referring to the side bars when watching 4:3 shows or bars on the top and bottom on 16:9 material?

scott..........i never said that. And i mean the black bars on dvd's, and the grey bars on 4:3. Do either of them cause burn in?

I know the aspect ratio's on DVD's are not all 1.78:1, so don't post anything that has to do with the aspect ratios, all i want to know is,.......is there an issue with burn in with either of the types of bars???:confused::(

You never said anything abought burn in.

I have never heard of a single issue. I could never watch a tv with GREY bars but i suppose if you only watched a specific ratio for long long long period of time and switched to a different ratio then it may be possiable. But it is very RARE, to answer your question. Don't sweat it and enjoy your TV.

The gray bars in 4:3 are meant to reduce uneven wear if you watch lots of 4:3 material. I've never heard persoanlly seen black or gray bars cause a problem. I have seen many instances of burn-in from still images. We loop dvd's a lot a work and if there is any text during the movie or if the movie is on the title screen a lot you can see it. We had a Bose demo dvd burn-in a Hitachi plasma a couple years ago. Also one Sony RPTV got it from a Directv message that came up in every morning when they first powered on the store at 6am but the sales staff didn't get in until 10am. Big freaking yellow mess. Some crazy **** bought it too! :)

Bingo!!!!!!! And the still image usually has to be somewhat brite and on for a long period of time. Store demos and what not.
