Everything matters......surrounds however are more so for ambient sounds and in my opinion spending big dollars on cable for those is a waste. But, going cheap is too so look for a decent cable for the longer runs like a Canare, Douglas cable, Signal cable.

I like Canare, or the raw Furez from Doug will be more than adequate for surround duty as Tonyb said. Take the same $ a long run of MIT cables would cost and buy a nice A/C wall receptacle from PS Audio and look into room treatments. Just my .02

Anything beyond lamp cord for surrounds is a total waste of money, and inaudible, as has been proven countless times.

One of the stupidest, uneducated comments ever posted. There is plenty of fine, detail sounds in surround channels, depending upon the movie. That needs to be accurately reproduced just as much as any other channel. Plus, I also use my HT as a surround sound music system. Perhaps you are deaf, and/or have no interest in accurate sound reproduction, but I do. That means high quality interconnects for the surrounds, high quality speaker wire, and high quality tower surround speakers.

The real answer to this question is really about money$ If one thinks MIT's are good for the front then there is no reason why they would not be good for the rear. But how much detail can one hear? and is it worth the spending? However, Sumerian already stated that he was recovering from his current awseome purchases.

So, IMO and the opinion of many others, going with the cheaper Douglas cable options makes sense....and if he really wanted to spend money then, making sure the room is treated, sub bass coverage is taken care of, and possibly moving to a 7.1 or 7.2 system might be money better spent? He should at least listen to a 7.1 system if he has not done so to get a sense of how for he wants to go with the surround channels.

Or spend the $800-$1300 on a digital server, or Oppo 105, or digital movie downloads, HD music downloads, live concerts, live musicals, plays, take a trip, etc.

Could always buy the MIT's and some Canare 4s11 and see for ones self if its worth it....

Yes. It depends on what you want to spend, and, IMO, whether you use also use the system for music or not. For both movies and music I enjoy getting each cricket chirp or note from each speaker as clear as possible.

    However, to say something like
Anything beyond lamp cord for surrounds is a total waste of money, and inaudible, as has been proven countless times.

    is just stupid.

Why do I say that? Because I used to have Home Depot 12 gauge stranded, twisted copper in my HT, and I upgraded to Mapelshade Cleaview Golden Helix Speaker Cable with PLUS upgrade, and it made a night and day differance with all speakers. And that was before I went with the MIT interconnects.

Unlike the speaker cables and amps, I think I am pretty good with digital server and I feel I got it covered pretty good at least for next 5 years

Where were you when I still had energy to post here?

Now prepare to be drowned. This is the only audio forum where snake oil goes for the real thing.
