Hello all, I'm back in the Polk family I now own a pair of 1989 SDA 2B Studio woodgrain. I purchased the pair from the original owner with; connecting cable, manual, receipt and original SDA brochure.
I cant wait to fire these puppies up and chat with other SDA fans.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the speakers. The 2B's are sweet; one of my favorites. You'll read a lot about mods. Most of which are definitely worth it. But listen to them stock for a while first to get used to them and have a good frame of reference for the mods before you perform any of them.If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

Congrats!
I remember the first time we listened to the 2B's. We didn't plan on it, but we spent the entitre afternoon listening to music and felt like we had to listen to all our albums again. I've done several "upgrades" to them recently and am waiting for the funds to pick up a good pre to go with the amp I have so we can have the same experince again.Yep, my name really is Bob.

LeftWinger 57 Im thinking about the Adcom 5500 seems like the best power for the price. Thoughts?

I only saw them on CL. I had my eyes on them for awhile. When the price came down I just wasn't in the position to make a move. Are the vinyl or veneer?

They're are vinyl, form what I understand Studio version came in black and Vinyl only. I was hoping they were the 2B's but ultimately discovered they're the studio version. However it was a real unexpected find, way better then I could have imagine, these things are time capsules.
I live in Delaware County too. -

I run a more vintage Adcom gfa 555 w/ tons of clean relieable power. We've been throught the tube vs ss war but for me I'm into instant gratifcation, instant on and more than enough power to do all my sets of speakers at the same time through my speaker selector which is rediculous in 1 room and never do that, just saying it's that strong and mine does not even get warm even at high volumes or heavier loads.I just did a search on your desire of a 5500 and it's bit expensive new for the same wpc.If you can get a either a modded or pristine 555 go for it. I bought mine from Audio Classics sound and sight unseen just on their reputation alone and it came sliippery clean, doubled boxed and bubble wrapped to the max.I paid $300 and got them to nix the shipping which they did.

Welcome to the club Summerwind2, sounds like you got a really nice pair at a great price! Enjoy!

Thanks for all the welcome and advice. I'm really gonna enjoy chatting with you guys. Im also happy that I have the 6 ohms and not the 4 ohms.

Welcome to Club Polk. You will be very happy with those wonderful speakers scored. Enjoy them. Placement is a key to great results too. I have mine about 5-6 inches off wall. 7 ft apart. No toe in needed....try to keep them 3 ft from sidewall if you can also. There is alot on placement here that can guide you. Asking questions doesnt hurt either..

Thanks for the info. I have about 20' of connector cable but Im thinking optimum would be 10' apart. -
Here is Polk placement if this helps. Enjoy http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/manual/SDA1c_2b_CRS_MN.pdf..

Congrats on your purchase. I used to own 2B's, they're fantastic. Be aware that some of the mods you may choose to do can lower the inductance of the speakers. I would stick with an amp that can push 4 ohm loads and you won't have any problems. Common ground will make your life easier, but it is not a pre-requisite for the 2B's (do a search on here on the Dreadnaught).
Like you've been advised, enjoy them in stock form for a period of time, while researching the mods that are available to you. You'd be amazed at how much better those speakers will sound with a few tweaks.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -
Now that you're an owner, this forum has a list of music that other owners have found to be extraordinary through SDA's.
Edgar Winters' "Frankenstein" I believe, is quite an experience when the synthesizers riff comes at you, and then through you and then goes behind you. It's those kinds of moments that strikes a "WOW, these are special speakers for sure" moments. The list has all modes of music that will have something you already own or will want to download and check out. I also liked Olive, the "Extra virgin" CD. a lot of ambiance that is down right spooky and then it has an old Bass testing track called "Falling". The song is still used today to test subwoofers abilities.
putting your speakers 10' apart is great , but sit about 9' back or so.
Welcome to the club and the world of SDA.Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Welcome to Club Polk Summerwind! I also started with a pair of SDA Model 2s. These are great speakers and can easily be modded to sound a little better. Good luck!

Dear Schurkey,
There is no common ground into the GFA 5500 model.
You can look for GFA 555se which is higher power with common ground terminals included.

Something's not right. The Adcoms on the Everest World's wesite don't look like USA Adcoms. Are they making copies of American products?

I like anything unplugged or with great vocals, I've been told by many friends that I have the best ipod library. Being 53 yrs old I've been thru; AM pop, 60's rock, Motown,The Rat Pack, 70's sell-out rock, Disco, birth of smooth Jazz and now Adele, FOO Fighters, Cold Play and even Sara Brightman and Bocelli. I like it all. -
Welcome Summerwind.
I am using a GFA-5500 to power a pair of SDA's. Although it's not a common ground amp, you can strap the negative speaker terminals together, essentially making it a common ground amp.
I'm about three hours Northwest in Centre County. -

There's another part of your problem.Political Correctness'.........defined
