So like many of us I am big into audio. My wife, while she appreciates the good sound from the speakers we have, not so much. Often times my conversations about DAC's, new AVR features, and especially new cables are met with the rolling of eyes. And more often than not my attempt to steer the conversation into her saying yes to buying new gear is met with a "No you dont need that", or "Didnt you just buy x last month and that cost x amount", or more often that not "You think I am going to fall for that again"... And I admit its good she keeps me honest and grounded as it is one reason our bank account is positive, and not run into the ground
But every once in a while on my audio journey with her I get a nice chuckle out of things. Like when we are looking at houses online and she points at a picture and says "Those are some really big Maggies, wonder if they are the 1.7's"... followed by.... "Crap I cant believe I know what those are", or I show her someone's setup on AVSForum and she says "They totally need to reconfigure their center channel, its not properly spaced for their listening area".... or my most favorite "Yeah, our setup is better"
Well today is another one of those. We as you know are going to cut cable. This will save us about 130 bucks a month. We are going to up our Netflix subscription to add one blu-ray movie at a time which will cost us an additional 10 bucks a month, so we are saving only 120 by cancelling cable. I have also been interested in signing up for some sort of music subscription to augment my already large library.
Well today about 10 mins ago as she was walking out the door to run to the grocery store she just says nonchalantly.... "Oh hey babe, your remember that music service you wanted to subscribe too, but I said to wait a couple months to sign up... Well I signed us up for the 10 dollar subscription today and used it at work.. I have to admit it is pretty cool and I like it MUCH better than Pandora"....
So that was a double win. And I have to admit my wife is pretty awesome
And thats what you call audiophile winning!
P.S. They do have lots of "gangsta" rap on MOG too, and it sounds even more "gangsta" @ 320 bps ....

Sounds like you have an understanding better half. She should probably hang out with my wife, maybe some of that will rub off on here. My wife just rolls her eyes at me.Dan

Yep the eye rolling happens a lot in our household, however she picked out our Rti's over the TSI's and Klipsch we were looking at, she rolled her eyes when I brought home the 3rd pair of SDA's, or when I bought the original stands for my CRS+'s. She's always saying things about our friends systems when we go over their house, such as man that sounds nothing like are HT. I like how she talks about the SDA effect and try's explaining it to people who thinks their Sony HTIB they got at Walmart can't be beat.Home Theater

I popped a blu-ray in Saturday evening. As I was going through the setup the wife says: "Oh! this one is actually in 7.1, what a treat!".

This is a great post! I often wonder if somewhere out there an audiophile wife is trying desperately to convince her frugal husband that they need to upgrade their speaker cables! Somehow, I just can't imagine it happening! Besides, when a woman wants something, she just holds out on other things until the husband caves! Unfortunately, this never works for the husband?Sources: Technics SL1200MKII | SME3009 Tonearm | Monster Alpha 1 MC cartridge | Oppo UDP203 disk player | Nikko NT-790 analog tuner | Musical Fidelity Trivista 21 DAC | Preamp: Threshold SL-10 | Amplifier: Threshold Stasis 2 | Speakers: Snell Acoustics C/V | Kimber 12-TC bi wire speakers | Analysis plus Oval 1 preamp to amp | Wireworld Eclipse 7 DAC to Preamp | Wireworld eclipse digital IC Oppo to DAC | Audioquest Quartz tuner to preamp |

The first time my wife actually "took note" of something in my system, was when I bought the Fritz Carbon 7 speakers. She was blown away with how big they sounded, and the bass output of such a small speaker.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I just hit my wife until she agrees with me.
Not really. Typically, I beg, plead, sneak, borrow and steal to get the things I want into the house before she notices...hehe."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

My wife has no idea about "any" of this and could care less. She listens to whatever I run, and does not even notice the upgrade. Let me provide an example, she was listening to a recording my daughter made of a cover song on her Macbook through the laptop speakers, and I turned to her and offered a pair of Audio Technicas (M50s) so that she could hear in better fidelity? Her response, these don't sound make it sound much "better". Seriously, a beloved set of cans below $150 vs the "tiny" speakers in a laptop and you can't tell the "difference"? I give up!
Then, the other day I talked her into spending a little more to get a 23" 1080P display for her computer instead of using my smaller 20". So the monitor arrives yesterday, I hook it up (it looks GREAT!) and she complains, "That's TOO big on my desk!" Too big!
At least here I could offer a suggestion, "OK, you can have my 20" and I'll take the 23"--in order to edit some of "your" HD video footage since this is a "Better" display for editing!". OK! Well, I guess there are some advantages.
I upgraded her computer audio system to a nice digital amp and a set of RCA versions of the Minimus 7s. Sounds very nice in her room. Gives her the volume that she needs, her comment, "Do we REALLY need ALL this on my desk?" So it does NOT matter that the sound IS much better/louder than the laptop speakers (I even gave her the WHITE ones for decor!).
Oh well! You're a lucky man, Ender..

The fact that you're still having arguments might be of concern though.
LOL! Although I shouldn't laugh too loud. I have arguments with myself all the time. Usually about whether to buy or not buy an album. Sometimes it gets physical.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A -
When I bring up anything audio my wife starts looking for the frying pan. If she ever finds where I hid it I will be in for a world of trouble. However, in her defense when my father was giving me heck for buying a tube amp she herself admitted it looked and sounded good taking my side in the argument. Lol.
For all the eye rolling I get from my wife, she still refuses to watch a movie at any of our friends homes because (in her words) their systems "suck" compared to ours...
I wish I had the camera rolling when I hooked up the second velodyne and cranked them both when I threw in "The Dark Knight" on BR. She was not expecting the result. -
What was that subscription that's better then pandora?

My best moment came when my wife said how much she liked the look of my 2.3TL's, which I have to admit kinda' dominate the LR! They replaced Def Tech BP 30's which are 7-8" wide c/w almost 21", and are much taller.
She says they look high class "Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
My wife's only complaint about the lsim was that she would have liked them in cherry because she liked that finish on the monitors I replaced.
She still won't admit that she like the subwoofers though -

I think that he is referring to mog.com. At least that's what he was considering. I use it and recommend it. Turn it off while you're listening to music or watching a movie so she can hear what it adds to the experience."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -

Dude I'm sorry but in my house that would be equivalent to "stop having sex with your wife for a month so she'll know what she's missing." She'd be like, "what? we didn't do what? Better try another month so I can really tell the difference..." :eek:Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es
