Cheapest source for lead shots for the beefing up my 703 stands

Hi All,

I would like to beef up the recent stands i got for he LSIM 703's

Can some body please let me know the cheapest sorce for leads shots specifically in and around NJ.
I know sand is cheap but would like to stick to lead shots or ant metal filling to add maximum weight possible.

    You could use a mix of sand and gardening pebbles - they get pretty heavy and the sand dampens the sound. either way you want to use at least some sand I think...

    How about some copperhead BBS and some fine sand. Less toxic than lead.

    Nice stands, I've not seen those before.

    We typically use Sand, works very well and it's cheaper then lead.

    Holy smokes, I didn't realize lead was that expensive these days. Seriously man, the lead cost almost as much as some stands. Maybe the sand won't weigh as much as lead, but sure beats the price.

    Yes, lead shot is very expensive these days. I filled my MS-90/36B with this:

    But I paid $15 only in a local store. Sand is cheaper, around $4 for a 50 lb bag and it works almost the same.

    Well the America's Cup Sailboat Race is the most expensive place for lead shot. The US team was just fined $250,000 for a few ponds of illegal lead shot.

    I just checked , sound anchor stands that Vandersteen uses for most of their models uses sand .I was into getting a used pair of 2ce sigs and inquired whether the stands were that important and for this brand they are .Both for stability and more importantly for a tilt to get the best time array possible.So ther'es another comment on sand over lead.Different product yes.

    If you see the price history on amazon you will be surprised the prices went up from 4$ to 40$ overnight in 2011 and

    The one thing you want to watch out for with sand or pea gravel is moisture in the bags from sitting out in the sun. Condensation dumped into a steel stand eventually leads to rust. Plus it also encourages further condensation. Just something to think about.

    Yup lead it is but have to look around for better prices cannot justify myself spending 60 $ on leads .... Almost half the cost of stands.

    From the pics it looks like that column is open at the bottom, any way to easily seal it up to use a filler such as sand or lead?
