You could use a mix of sand and gardening pebbles - they get pretty heavy and the sand dampens the sound. either way you want to use at least some sand I think...

How about some copperhead BBS and some fine sand. Less toxic than lead.

Nice stands, I've not seen those before.
Lead shot is no longer cheap thanks to nobama, but accept no substitute. I use Precision and highly recommend them, http://www.precisionreloading.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PRE&Category_Code=LEAD_SHOT_BB9Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks Jesse,
I am glad you liked them and thanks for the pointers. -
We typically use Sand, works very well and it's cheaper then lead.Dan

Holy smokes, I didn't realize lead was that expensive these days. Seriously man, the lead cost almost as much as some stands. Maybe the sand won't weigh as much as lead, but sure beats the price.HT SYSTEM-

Yes, lead shot is very expensive these days. I filled my MS-90/36B with this:
http://www.basspro.com/Lawrence-High-Antimony-Magnum-Lead-Shot/product/120829053300283/
But I paid $15 only in a local store. Sand is cheaper, around $4 for a 50 lb bag and it works almost the same. -
Well the America's Cup Sailboat Race is the most expensive place for lead shot. The US team was just fined $250,000 for a few ponds of illegal lead shot.

I just checked , sound anchor stands that Vandersteen uses for most of their models uses sand .I was into getting a used pair of 2ce sigs and inquired whether the stands were that important and for this brand they are .Both for stability and more importantly for a tilt to get the best time array possible. So ther'es another comment on sand over lead.Different product yes.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

If you see the price history on amazon you will be surprised the prices went up from 4$ to 40$ overnight in 2011 and
stayed at 40$ ever since. -
Pea-gravel if you don't want a sand mess.
Can we get that at Lowes?
Looks like most of threads recommend lead shot...
Looks like sound doesn't come cheap -
The one thing you want to watch out for with sand or pea gravel is moisture in the bags from sitting out in the sun. Condensation dumped into a steel stand eventually leads to rust. Plus it also encourages further condensation. Just something to think about."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Cheap lead? Try China, they put it in just about every product they send us, as filler? lol

That is because lead shot per volume weighs more. Mass loading is the goal making other product such as sand a less desirable choice.Political Correctness'.........defined

Yup lead it is but have to look around for better prices cannot justify myself spending 60 $ on leads .... Almost half the cost of stands. -
Sometimes you just have to pay the piper.
Remember to wear latex gloves when handling lead and wash your hands anyway after doing so.Political Correctness'.........defined

From the pics it looks like that column is open at the bottom, any way to easily seal it up to use a filler such as sand or lead?Vinyl, the final frontier...

After looking at these I bought a pair in red. Not like the skylans but I'm not that serious with my bookshelf system, yet.
