OK, I just ordered my first SCM-SACD. Dire Straits self titled album, their first. I hope it is a good one as these aren't cheap.

Good to hear, this is one of my favorite albums of all time, takes me back to other great memories. Funny how music can do that. I also need to pick it up on vinyl again sometime as mine isn't it the best of condition.

    Looking forward to it.

Do you order yours from Japan or local distributors??

vmaxer, the cheapest place I've found (possibly excluding sale prices) is here: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/search3.html?q=shm-sacd&media=&r=any&step=20&order=score

"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

That is where I ordered it from. Didn't know if there were any reason to get from US distributors, or reasons not to.

    Thanks for the info!

The only reasons I can think of from buying from a US distributor (which charges higher cost for the SHM-SACD's) is potentially shorter delivery time (although CDJapan is pretty quick). The other reason is lower shipping cost (potentially free). I don't think the price difference between a US distributor opposed to CDJapan makes up for potentially free shipping however. You still end up paying more from a US distributor.

Glad you got a good price on the Dire Straits SHM-SACD. You will love it.

Edit: It can certainly be said that by purchasing from a US distributor, you are supportin the US businesses, which is a positive side to purchasing fron a US distributor.

    Got it yesterday, love it!!

Hard to believe the sound would improve with playing, but I guess I will see. Anyone know how long this takes?? At some point I will compare it to vinyl.

Maybe set up your player only (rest of your rig off) to repeat and play it through the night/day then give it another listen and see if you notice a difference. I'd be real interested in your findings...

I wanted to make a big recommendation for The Police's "Synchronicity" SHM-SACD. I listened to this a couple day ago and it sounds fantastic! This is a highly recommended SHM-SACD. Best version of this album released (yes, including the MFSL gold CD, but that one does sound pretty good).
