Hi guys, first of all let me introduce myself to you: my name is Diego, I write from Rome and I'm still (meaning that I do not even thought to resell those beauties) the proud owner of a wonderfull SDA 1C loudspeakers system since 1994.

Recently, my beloved cat - despite of this I honestly still love him - got one of the MW 6510's suspension ruined, leading me to replace it with a new one. I was convinced it would be a desperately task to accomplish, but with my great surprice, after emailing at Polk customer service, I happily discovered they still do have that driver available

So, to make it short, I'm now looking for the spare parts list to exactly know the price of the driver - including the discount percentage reserved to Polk's forum  - can anyone suggest a link? Cannot find in no way.

Many thanks in advance!

Diego

Welcome to Club Polk. It's best to call, not email Polk Customer Service. The price for the replacement drivers is $48.00 for Club Polk members, with free shipping within the US. Shipping to Italy will be an additional charge I'm sure.
The Stereo Drivers should be MW6511, and the Dimensional Drivers MW6510. The original tweeters should be SL2000 Silver Coils. New and vastly improved Tweeters are available, the RDO-194-1. They are also $48.00 each, but are currently out of stock until the end of October.

Hello to you too! Good to know about it, I will pay willingly, I despaired of finding that driver as spare part........at the moment I'm waiting for the response by the customer service to know the final price including S & H.

Welcome to Club Polk Diego. Sorry about your cat destroying your MW6510 driver. As already suggested, call Polk's customer service as e-mail takes A LOT longer. The number is listed at the top right of the Club Polk screen (in orange).

Hello again to everybody, I apologise for my sudden disappearing but have been called by familiy duties....anyway...thanks for the warmth welcome into the club, I hope it will be a constructive and sharing experience.

Regarding the spare driver, while I got the discount price - 48 USD, about 36 Euro - I'm now waiting to know exactly the freight cost to place my order.

Now just a curiosity if you are aware of this: are the spare drivers NOS?

    Ciao!

No. They're new Chinese replacements. I think the idea is that they're electrically/mechanically compatible with whatever part number they replace, but they don't look the same--made on different tooling, with different materials.

No, no, no! You cannot use just any old 6.5" woofer. Polk woofers are unique, and each model is different. You must use the correct woofer, either used or from Polk.
This photo will show you the difference between the older original woofer, and the new replacement woofer from Polk. The new replacement is on the left. You'll note the coil leads are hidden under the dust cap of the newer model, and the cone surface has a different texture to it. The new woofers are mechanically, electrically, just as important, sonically identical to the originals

I guess I have no alternative....I know mechanical parameters are important, referring to a "casual unit" was just a no-sense sentence..........I was anyway convinced those drivers were NOS or still home made....I don't like too much chinese stuff.......but I suppose I have to trust in Polk's choice.

I believe most of the 80s drivers were made in Mexico.

Diego, lets get serious here for a minute. You really don't expect any speaker maker to carry stock parts for decades old speakers, do you ? I'm sure even in Italy that concept is considered rational.

Now, send over some Lasagna and a recipe for Nona's sauce.

You're right Tony, maybe I just thought in an irrational way......anyway, at this point I'll replace the rubber suspension with a new one so to mantain the original driver.

About a recipe for a fantastic LASAGNA check here:

    http://www.cucchiaio.it/ricette/ricetta-lasagne-bolognese

.....I know it's written in italian language but with a little effort I'm sure you'll do a perfect work!

About my grandma tomato sauce here is just a hint:

pour some extra virgin olive oil into a pan with some sliced garlic, when the garlic has become slightly amber (not burned!) add some fresh diced tomatos (about 400 gr.) and let them cook until the excess of water has evaporated; in other words the sauce must be creamy.

At this point - not before, unless you don't want a lot of water getting out from tomatoes - you can add some salt........I think this is the SECRET to get a perfect sauce.

You can use this sauce with some fresh basil leaves and grated Parmigiano cheese upon spaghetti........or other size of pasta.

    Ciao!
    Diego

PS - I hope translation is correct.......actually it should be.

….while if you want to make a perfect “Ragù” (or Ragout) sauce you must follow this steps:

    • pour in a pan three soup spoons of extra virgin olive oil
    • add some thinly sliced onion and a clove of garlic
    • make it cook until amber (again, not burned!)
    • add about 500 gr of ground beef leaving it cook well then
    • add a half glass of a good red wine (or white if preferred) allowing it to evaporate
    • now add 400 gr of fresh tomatoes as well as some salt and pepper
    • let it cook about 40 minutes - or more - until you get a creamy texture

You’re now ready to taste the classic “Bolognese sauce” made with the original recipe in no-touristic way (seed oil, canned tomatoes, dehydrated onion, garlic powder and other crap like)

    Diego

PS - I like this place, we started talkin' about audio now we're talking about good food.....actually two different way to get pleasure.

You'd crap yourself if you were tied down and forced to eat MY spaghetti sauce.

2 -15 oz. cans of Hunts tomato sauce
1 or 2 -8 oz can of Hunts tomato paste (second can makes thicker sauce)
1 -tiny can of chopped or sliced black olives. 3oz? 4oz?
Cayenne pepper to taste (two shakes of the dispenser, for me)
    Black pepper to taste
Onion powder or dehydrated onion flakes to taste
Garlic powder or diced, prepared garlic to taste
Not more than 1 lb. ground beef, browned, drained, finely crumbled. The stores around here like to sell it in 1.1 lb. packages so the consumer has to buy more than they really want.
NO added salt (Tomato sauce has plenty)
NO oil or other fat. There's enough from the drained hamburger.
NO leafy green crap. My wife likes oregano, basil, "parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme"...NOT ME. Yuck.
NO SUGAR!!! For reasons that are completely unknown to me, most spaghetti sauce in America has been polluted/poisoned with sugar. The horror...the horror.

IF POSSIBLE make the sauce a day ahead, refrigerate until ready to re-heat and serve. Sauce can be frozen without harm.

Covers about one pound of 'sketty. Optional: Add mozzarella cheese on top of each plate, just before serving.

That's the problem my dear, a bit of sugar usually help to avoid the slightly tomatoes acidity but just a bit, anyway I do not use it, rather, the sweet taste you're referring to, sometimes comes from WORCHESTERSHIRE sauce generously spread over (aarrghhhhh!)......simply absurd.

Regarding other pollution, the original recipe is dedicated to the "tagliatelle" (noodles maybe?) and doesn't contain other cheese apart Parmigiano and ABSOLUTELY not oregano (sigh)........we're not making a pizza sauce

But don't worry, I can be a reliable source about the right ingredients to use.......

    Ciao!

Hey, thanks for the Lasagna recipe Diego. I'll give it a whirl. Americans, I should say some not all, are used to the Americanized Italian cooking. Real Italian is very simple with the key being fresh ingredients. You can actually taste those ingredients instead of covering it all up with crap.
Yeah, sorry for the derail on the thread. You'll find us as much foodies as we are audio nuts. Not a bad thing is it ?
