Completed my Monitor 10B Restoration

Hi there guys,
I have been working on restoring a set of monitor 10B's that I received earlier this year. It has been a long road trying to restore these because of work and family etc. Well, I have finally completed them. I only need to make some grills since they did not come with any and were in really bad shape( 3 drivers had shifted magnets etc.) Those will be done in a few weeks, but thought I would post the complete some pics of the completed restoration. I must thank all the members here who helped by answering all my questions and giving me ideas etc.
Here is a link to the restoration thread on AK.

Nice work! Now they'll put a smile on your face even when they're not being used!

Wow, those look good. Real nice!Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

Thanks a lot guys, I feel very good about how they turned out. Again i picked the brains of quite a few members on this sight about the bad drivers I had and also about redoing my crossovers. I got a lot of great useful information that helped me a lot. Thanks again everyone.Looking good man. Congrats on a successful project. But, um.... that restoration isn't done yet. Have you done any mods to improve the sound yet?
Thanks DSkip, yes, I have used dynamat on all the drivers and the passive subwoofer, redid the crossovers using Mills resistors and film caps, glued magnets and also ensured that the enclosures were properly sealed.Nice wood-working! Have you done anything to the inside (e.g. XO's)? I can see you still have the SL2000 tweets.
Thanks StantonZ, this was my first time doing anything like this and I am very impressed by my work to be honest. The crossovers were redone, using quality parts as mentioned my numerous others here on this forum. As far as the SL2000 tweets, I left them in place for now. They do sound a little bright, but I will wait a while and let the crossover break in and then decide if i will replace it or not.Is that sapele veneer? The front looks like oak. Nice work!
The veneer is actually called "Planetree" and I like the look a lot. Plus, I got it on Amazon for over 50% off at the time. Yes, the front bezel is made from Oak.Mikey081057 wrote: »Nice work They didn't look that good when they were BF new!!!
Lol..I agree with you, I hated that cheap plastic veneer they used on it too. I like them much better as they are now. -
Really nice looking work there, man.
Wish I had half that kind of talent.“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

Thanks stretchl, like I said was my first time and I am sure it will not be the last time restoring some speakers. I have some 11T's that I am thinking about reveneering. Not sure yet though. I have a question though all. I totally forgot to mark which wire was pos. and which was neg. on my crossovers. I did connect the white to positive and the black to negative and to be quite honnest the speakers sound great. I have since been looking at a few posts that basically give me the impression that the black was positive and the white negative. Is this correct, do I need to open them up again and reverse the wires?
Thanks for your help folks. -
If you're at all looking for more parts to work with, I've got these, from two 10B's with water damaged cabinets.
Just asking for shipping cost and want them to go to a good home.

Thanks for the offer stretchl, I could use a good MW6503. If you look closely on the left driver in the left speaker, you will see that its not perfect. The magnet had shifted and I made a jig and did a repair. The repair went well, but as you can see after cutting the dust-cap and gluing it back, it doesn't look too good..lol. I will send you a pm. Thanks again.

Thanks for your help folks.
On most vintage Polks, the black wire is + positive, and the white - negative/ground.
As long as everything is wired the same, I wouldn't worry about it, unless you add other Polks in the mix for Home Theater.
Wait till your next reason to open them up, and make the correction then.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Ok, thanks westmassguy I will do that. All the wiring to each driver is consistent white-positive, blk- negative. They do sound real good anyway.

Nice work! As another said, you can enjoy them as much when they're not playing!

Thanks markamerica, I do enjoy looking at them even when they are not playing. The best part is knowing that I did it by myself( with input from the pros of course)..lol.
