Any one of the first 3 would be a good choice. I don't know enough about the Aragon's.

It's very simple and very clear Tony. He is interested in the Emotiva because it's a NEW product, with a warranty, and he can return it if he wants to. This is very important to most people. If he buys used he doesn't have any of the above listed.

You guys might not like it but the fact that Emotiva is still in business is because they allow people to get into higher end gear at a reasonable price than you can get out of Best Buy or going to some high end shop where he will pay a whole lot more for brand new.

Curious how you surmised that as Tony never mentioned Emo once...

Another amp to add to your list would be a Sunfire TGA 7200 or 7201... great amp for the coin, and you can bi-amp the fronts from it.

Had an Aragon 2005 for a bit. Nice looking amp but sonically kinda flat, boring, slightly warm/rolled off in my opinion.

I keep reading that sonically they are the same. the later amps have a different faceplate and balanced XLR inputs added but NO level adjustments for each channel. For the money $700-$800 not sure what else is out there...unless a great deal comes along in your area like the $500 B&K 200.7 in Boulder, CO. I say make an offer on the 7270 near you in NJ and be done!

There is a Parasound A52 on the Dallas CL for about $1800 asking. The guy has quite a few items from the Halo series as well. If you end up going this route and would rather someone else package/ship it for you, let me know.

Seems like there are a bunch of us looking to purchase a decent amplifier right now after this F&F sale. I'm guessing if a company like Emotiva or Outlaw offerred a sale right now, we'd probably jump on it.

Has anyone tried putting together a group buy? Is that even a possibility with amplifier retailers?

Here's a few good choices culled from the used market in your price range.

    Rotel RMB-1095 - 200wpc x 5

    Aragon 3005 - 300wpc x 5

    Anthem Statement A5 - 225wpc x 5

    B&K 200.7 - 200wpc x 7

    Jesse,

In your intial recomendation you have suggested all 5 channels except for B&K is it because it is THX certified and sounds better than 200.5? or is it because you havent heard 200.5?

I have no idea but how about B&K or Parasound group from a dealer?

Are there any sponsored dealers here on any other audio forums?

BTW what speakers did you buy?

Just an FYI, I got my B&K 200.7 for about $500 on Craigslist. I live in the DC/Maryland area though, so there's usually lots of goodies available.

In reality, I got the B&K plus the B&K reference 50 preamp for $750, but I'm hoping I can resell the pre for $250 on flea bay. Also got some monster XLR interconnects that might bring the cost down too. If you're patient, there are always deals to be had, it just depends on timing.

I bought the LSIM 705s and the 704c (706c wouldn't quite fit). They will be replacing M70s and CS2. I'm expecting great things... they arrived earlier today and can't wait to get home to set up!

I will be moving the M70s to the rear (have some M60s there now).

Nope, just took a look at what was on the used market at the time.

would like to update the end result...

I finally placed order for Parasound Halo A51... Got a deal from the dealer for a brand new, what i feel is a great deal so i couldn't pass it up... Ordered a black one.

Thanks a lot for all the folks for their time and patience in answering all my questions....

there were couple of good suggestions from the fellow folks which were equally recommended along with Halo but the looks of Halo won me over.

Though i have been swayed by the fancy looking and crazy spec'ed Emotivas in the beginning but slowly i moved up the thought process ladder and ended up with parasound...

I assume i did good ... have to wait and listen how it comes out.

one thing i would like to add for any new novice audiophilas... though i havent done A/B comparison but from the information i have gathered numbers alone doenst mean anything and take the reviews on the internet with a spoon of salt.
especially emotivas fans try too read the threads on their forum and other forums you will soon realize it is like a mass hysteria.

While I haven't had a chance to hear the Ms on the A51, I did hook my stock LSi9s up to my buddy's A51 and the combo, while maybe not the end all be all of sound was rather impressive.

I am hardly an Emo basher. I have owned several and still have one residing in a closet as a backup. But the sound was not what I was looking for and as such, I moved on to other brands ultimately ending up with Adcom.
Eventually, I would love to be able to afford multiple brands of amps that can be swapped in/out and A/B comparisons can be made. But until then, I have to rely on others' experiences.
