Only thing missing is to find some Peerless Monitor 4's to replace the ones I'm using. Just picked up these Peerless Monitor 5's today with original stands and literature. Let me know if you see that I'm doing anything obviously wrong here, I'm still learning.

Well, the Misfits are going to sound pretty good on that setup.

You know, 2 channel music sounded a lot better when it was only going through the CA1010. Once I started using the 7.1 AVR, 2ch music went back to sounding a little bright, especially at mid to higher volumes. I would have thought since they're being powered by the 1010 that they would have the sound of the 1010 but no. Even when I put the AVR in "pure direct" it still effects the sound.

I guess that was the long way of saying Misfits sounds okay but not great. I need a different AVR or a pre/pro setup I think.

How are you wiring the 2 5's for a center?
Use in series as parallel will drop load too hard to handle for a receiver.

They are wired in parallel, so 4 ohm load. I figured since the only other thing it's powering is the little 4's and I rarely listen to anything louder than 10 watts (according to the needles on the CA1010) that it would be okay.

Polk manual suggest that you hook 5B up in Series, 5B are 6 ohms.

Well, just found this out. Should have checked them more closely when I bought them today but I suppose it wouldn't have made a difference, I still would have bought them.

    w6im.jpg

I'm sure this is hurting bass performance. Is there a specific PR I need to be looking for as far as replacement?

If you have room, turn the center-channel speakers right-side-up. (tall, not wide)

Dispersion pattern should improve--less reflected sound off floor and ceiling. Short, wide center channel speakers are common as dirt, but they're build "wrong" to deliver best sound. They're built that way to fit available space in the Entertainment Center.

I was reading about this within the last week. (Don't remember where, though...)

The article was about power dissipation through the power transistors of an amp, and how reducing the impedance of the load causes the power transistors (or tubes, I suppose) to dissipate far more heat than a person would expect as the impedance drops. Using an amp below it's recommended impedance gets things hot in a hurry, even at reduced power levels. KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR AMP'S TEMPERATURE.

It's a vintage 5.1 set-up right? You might consider a surround sound processor that you can hook up in the tape loop. Yamaha made a DSP E-300 back in the day, that has amp outs for rear surround, front presence, center and LFE out for bass/subwoofer. It also pushes front presence, rear surround and center channel at an amazing 20WPC. The Main is still out through your integrated amp.

    The manual is here .

My point is you can have the DSP / Surround sound effect on or off, and the two channel stereo is always gonna be your old school integrated amp.

    Cheers,

That looks like a clean tear. Might there not be an adhesive that would seal it? Anyone have any suggestions here?

Will any polk 8" PR work? I noticed there is one version that has a larger dustcap then the other.

It would be best to get the exact replacement, or a Polk recommended replacement. PRs are weighted differently to "tune" them to the specific application. Using the wrong one will alter the bass output. That said, I'd be inclined to attempt a repair with a bead of some sort of flexible adhesive.

Yes but, If your Phillips Smart TV has 4 HDMI inputs, and 3 audio outputs and one composite video output with audio out too.... I count 4 HDMI in and 4 audio out. I don't know how many digital signals you're running, but you can run your HDMI's into your TV and run your audio out into your classic integrated amp / Yamaha DSP E300 in the tape loop and viola. problem solved.

Look for the Monitor 5 original 8" with the front fiber gasket. The 5B may be weighted differently.

My TV only has a single audio out and it's digital coax. I think TV manufacturers are starting to do away with analog outs.
