The only bad thing with the Solar City deal is that if you use Pepco and produce more electricity that you use with you solar panels, Pepco will only pay you the price of their generation, not generation and distribution, so you could end up losing money on that transaction. Nevertheless, I'm going forward with my SolarCity installation because I'll save 25% over Pepco and help the environment.

I have Solar City coming on Monday to check things out and to see if a system would fit my needs. My bills are already VERY low, so it may be tough. I did my usage for the last year (April '13 - April '14)...I had an electricity usage of just under 5500 kWH for the year. I run a pretty efficient ship here.

I'm with BG&E and any chance I get to keep more money out of their pockets, the better.
    No excuses!

Solar City is really growing out East. I think they just opened a second location in the DC area. Good to hear all the Solar talk!

We have all our bid in now and will decide on either a 10 kw system at 41k or a 6kw system at 31k installed. we will get the 30% federal rebate and no sales tax on either system. then we can net meter back if the panels and inverters are made in WA at.054 til
2020 at a max of 5k per month. payback will be 5-6 yr on the outlay.. our solar is all south facing at 95-99% all months.

We are crunching the numbers as this wont need to be financed.

That seems a bit steep to me. Last August I had a 6.5kW system installed for 24k, before the 7k tax credit.

I used a small company hungry for business and with good prices. They did a great job, and installed everything in one day.

I've often toyed with the idea of building my own solar panels...after all, the Internet says it's easy, right? That is, until I found out that each one of those little photo voltaic cells requires soldering two wires. Once the multiplication kicks in...that's a whole bunch of soldering. Where I live in Florida...even if you install sufficient panels to generate enough electricity to live completely off the grid...you're still required by law to be hooked up to a utility. Kind of perverse, isn't it? You're fed a big line about conserving and going "green," but you still have to pay the Man.
