Sucks, but part of the deal when you own cats.

As for declawing, sure it's better for you.. but it's a pretty sh*tty deal for the cat.

No need to adjust the sights a close up shot is all it would take. If you want to be civil about it since you are a cat person the front 2 should do, or let it loose in my front yard and see if my dogs will let it from one end to the other. I guess you should choose the front 2 option. Sorry to hear about those grills.

If your cat is allowed outside on it's own, then declawing leaves them defenseless. Inside cats, the fronts are usually sufficient to thwart any speaker damage. Still, won't stop them from pissin' on everything you own.

Clip their nails every week. I keep ours short, never a problem with speaker grills. I also keep a couple "turbo scratchers" filled with catnip around the house. They prefer those over fabric.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Mine are always indoors and declawed up front.
They do lose some of their other functions. Front claws are
used like fingers to a person. So they have to adapt.

Sorry to hear bout the speakers. Ours lives in the basement since he never adjusted to the move and decided to piss on the floor upstairs.
You might want to start keeping some cardboard cut to size of speakers to place around them when not in use.

I don't know if I had the cardboard around them when you picked them up. I found some black cardboard at Wal Mart and keep it wrapped around my 15's. It doesn't look the greatest but it protects them from the airborne slobber from the coonhound.

Sorry to hear about the grilles...don't hurt the kitty for doing what comes natural..if ya declaw the fronts make sure ya keep him inside...he won't stand a chance out there without em...there are companys that make protective covers that go over the fabric of speaker grilles to protect em

Thanks for all the suggestions. I wont be taking any of them off just yet but it sure torqued my Twinkie to see the little bugger stretching from the subs to the side of the right channel for a good scratch. Arghh. The cloth is replaceable and the cat is really cool...well until day before yesterday anyway. This is the first time she has even come close to any of the grills so I do still have a bit of patience left. I like the idea of some sort of cover as Charly95 had when I picked them up. Ill probably go that route first but if I were her I don't think I'd let dad see it again or it might be hard to take tight corners or climb trees after that lol.

Perhaps the cat was merely displaying his displeasure with your selection of music. A little compromise on your part and a little "Mona Bone Jakon" or "Tea for the Tillerman" once in awhile isn't too much to ask for, IMO.

Have you thought about possibly setting up a separate rig in the cat's room for his/her listening enjoyment ?
...the cat does have his own room, right ? Or is the cat forced to wander about the house aimlessly, no direction known, like a rolling stone ?

Perhaps a nice set of wireless Dr Dre cans ? I'd recommend staying away from ear buds, though. The cords can become entangled in ceiling fans and .... well...... just stay away from ear buds.

    My wife had three cats.

First week I had my brand new shiny Toyota 4x4 in the garage they decided to have a cat scratch party on the hood.

All 3 were then declawed front and back since they were all indoor cats.

    They survived just fine.

Other behavior problems came later....but they have all passed on now....with the decree that there shall be no more cats in the house.

If I was on top of things, instead of blowing my fuse, I would have fired off some Pantera in the -20 range. Of course then I would be fixing holes in the ceiling tiles as well but it would have been Funniest Home Videos worthy to say the least.

Front 2 is $120 all four is $160....The wife said it would be fun to really screw with her when all she could do is gnaw on your fingers. I tend to agree. In all fairness, we did just move. I think I'll look into the scratchy thingy and some covers first (That's the voice that loves my wife). If it does it again I'M TAKING THEM ALL AND MAKING A NECKLACE!!!

Personally, I consider declawing a cat as animal cruelty. That's just my opinion, so don't anyone get upset. I have two scratching posts that they use. When they use it they get a "Good kitty" in a calm voice. When they tried on the furniture they get a "You GDMF cat!" in a crazy, psycho voice. Also, they can walk by the stereo, but if they stop and look at it then crazy, psycho voice screams.

I have cats, and will always have cats. Love 'em. An easy way to keep them from scratching up your stuff is just to give them something else they like to scratch more. Plenty of products for that. My cats have a tower to climb on, and it is built using pillars covered in twine. They love to scratch those. Most cats love to climb things anyway, so a tower is a must-have if you have cats IMO. I got an Armarkat tower on the recommendation from the rescue that I got my current cats from, and have been very happy with it. Seems like it will hold up for years. This is the tower I have:

    http://www.amazon.com/Armarkat-Premium-Tree-Model-X7001/dp/B003BYQ1RI/

Although I kind of wish I had gotten a bigger one. My two cats love to be on the top tier together but they don't fit very well up there.

Syndil...That pic makes me want to hang a cow bell from the tails LOL. Just kidding. Sophie is pretty cool and we have never had a problem before. The wife bought one of those cat nip wave like scratching things today so we'll see how that goes. I have a fundamental issue with declawing as it were. Its fun to make light but if they ever need their defenses and don't have them its on me. I wont give up my guns so how would it be fair to take away hers?

Have three cats, don't scratch furniture and only once touched a speaker (my fault too) they have LOTS of awesome toys to scratch, high places to go to, they don't touch speakers. Any time they ever tried to scratch a couch, they got redirected by placing a scratching post at that spot. Now the upstairs couch has three scratching posts around it and guess what, they never scratch the couch.

Asking me? I left the grills off them once and they tore the surround of one driver and clawed a tweet. Far as I can tell from the claw marks and considering they never had nor haven't since given one crap about the speakers they were going after a bug.

With cats it's an accepted risk, cats doing what they're going to do, I left the grills off. My fault.

that is what i do. A little velcro on the back helps keep it on the fabric. (velcro hook not loop) I just keep on the front
