Still rockin out no neighboors today at all.Volume on the pre at 10:00 pos hurts my chest.Nothing will be done until Tweeters are ordered then we shall see what shape gaskets are in if not dried out and still pliable leaning towards doing nothing.Either Morite and or Armacell are easily obtainable,I can deal w/a $5or$ 6 item and like I said H/D is literally 3 minutes from me.

The Armacell is better than the stock gaskets imho. The originals are 30 years old now and though t hey look serviceable, they are not as good as they used to be.

Let's say that's correct. Now keep in mind I'm thinking out loud and follow my distorted logic again.NoonJohn I like your argument because I'm not going to be able cover the cost of x-overs anytime soon which may or maynot dissapoint people but that's the way it is.So I'm thinking since the passives have to be pulled for the Dynamat job if I was to Mortite it seems that would make for gross hassle later if in fact I were to ever get to the x-overs. The Armacell would not get either sticky or goopy like I'm thinking the Mortite would do if it kind of equates w/ a substance like a glazers putty.Again, if I think the gaskets are viable they might stay.I do hear what your saying and not goofing, you gave your opinion which of course is directly contardictatory w/ Jesses's accessment.

I've measured the original gaskets and various replacements including Mortite (nasty stuff), once properly compressed there is no difference in the thickness. YMMV.

So Jesse, your totally against Mortite as I thought it might be either messy or a hassel to pull apart later on.If and when I pull the gaskets and do my best to describe their condition and if I could manage some pix of them to you would that be a possiblity if not away at vacation or at work.

I don't think anyone is using Mortite these days and yes, I'm totally against it. John's discovery of Armacell as a gasket material has replaced Mortite for those that NEED to replace the stock gaskets. As long as you don't find any tears in your stock gaskets, they are in good condition. That said, if it would make someone sleep better at night, all they would be out replacing the stock gaskets with Armacell is a little money and bit of time.

That's the wrong Armacell - you don't want to wrap pipes. You want the tape:
