May be picking up some Monitor 7s tomorrow

I've been wanting to hear a set of these for years. Have the 5As and 10As but the 7s have eluded me. These seem in decent shape. Price is good and I can always replace that SL-2000 if it bothers me "enough".
Maybe I'll run them on the Sansui AU-517 integrated that has been in mothballs for a while?
Here are the pics. Seeing the guy tomorrow for the audition, everything is in working order according to owner.

Congrats. If you like the other Monitors, you will be happy with these. I haven't heard the SL2000, I have Peerless in one set and SL2500 in the other, and like both of those, but the RDO194 is supposed to be a great upgrade for yours.

I also think you will like these,I have the 10s and two sets of 7s.I like the 10s but the 7s just do it for me.Good luck tomorrow.

I had two pairs of 7's with SL2000 and 5's with SL2000.
Still have CRS+ and SDA-2B with SL2000 and they don't bother me.
I also have peerless 7's and they sound great after crossover upgrade.

Congrats - I keep thinking I'd like to have a pair of 7's, but I have absolutely no need for them. Enjoy!"Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer

Hope the audition goes well & they sound/look good. 7's can be a great speaker. Not too small-with big sound for size. My favorite in the Monitor line..

Picked these babies up today. Everything in working order. Could use a bit more of a seal but that can be taken care of. Auditioned them on an old Pioneer SX-737 (I have an SX-838 that I like quite a bit so this was a good receiver to play them on). Sound fine.
Probably hook them up to an HK 730 tomorrow and listen to the SL-2000 which I found a little "thin" in the demo, could have been the wiring--basic thin gauge wire. It goes without saying the new crossovers are in order (and probably an RD-0194 upgrade).
The little I heard made me think that while the bass is good on the 7s it is not as impactful for Rock, etc. as the 10As. But we'll know more tomorrow as the HK has a pretty decent punch on the low end for its 40 watts per side. I also have the AU-517 Sansui integrated which is rated at 65 watts x 2 but is a little beasty at 36 lbs or so! Also a TWIN power unit with 48,000 mf of capacitance for its mere 130 watts of power.

Congratulations on your new addition to your collection.

Congrats. Looks like you'll need some grill clips too. If you're doing the crossovers and the tweets, you should consider the TL Mod, and use the RDO-198-1s when they are back in stock.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Well, I'm not going to say anything that has not been said on this site so many many times.
Putting the Monitor 7s through their paces today. Easily the most "coherent" monitor I've heard, classic Polk sound, even, balanced, great mids, good detailed highs (to tell you the truth the SL2000s, don't sound that bad--of course last year I could only hear to 14Khz and who knows how much worse that is now. Maybe I can't hear that "bump" anymore, or not so well as these sound fairly detailed and not unbearably bright?) and excellent imaging, good sound staging. Also, I haven't cracked them open yet but it "really" sounds like someone has already done some crossover work in there. These are just TOO clean to be original caps, etc. (I'll be looking into this later). That said, I will probably end up upgrading the tweeter just so I can hear that "difference".
Very nice. But I will say, once more, that they can't, don't put out as BIG a sound as my Monitor 10As though I will admit the sound they do put out is adequate and exceptionally clean, pleasing to the ear. Bottom end is good enough, but it's not going to "rock" you out; there are limits to a speaker of this "size".
I wish Polk would make an "affordable modern" version of this. Let's say $600-800 a pair? Something a tier below the 703s but still very good.
I'd say these speakers can hang with a lot out there in the $1000 and under category and shame most of the competition!

It's amazing how good (and how long lasting) the Monitor Series line of speakers was.Yamaha RX-A2050 AVR (5.0.2); LG OLED77C2 4K TV(4) Polk Monitor 10B's w/SoniCaps, Mills, and RDO-194 tweets (R/L F/R)(2) Polk RC80i (Top Middle)Polk CS300 center channelAnalog: B&O TX2 Turntable, Nakamichi Cassette Deck 1Digital: Pioneer CLD-99 Elite LD, Panasonic DMP-UB900 UHD Blu-RayBedroom: Arylic Up2Stream AMPv3 driving Polk Monitor 4's w/peerless tweets

+1. Excellent pickup, C. I really like the monitor 7s, especially with the RDO198. They sound great recapped, even better with the tweeter upgrade. The bass digs very low for their size (down to about 25hz iirc), with tight control and accuracy. Outstanding for jazz, very nice for rock. More balanced and with better imaging than the monitor 10s, but the 10s are more impactful in the lower frequencies. Try them with some higher-end amplification and they will surprise you. I like them both, but if I could only choose one, it would be the 7s. Enjoy! -
Sounds like you are enjoying them. I'am trying to get a pair of some monitor 10B's series II if the person returns my calls. Enjoy your 7s.Home Theater
