Badges?

Scarface might not need them, but I'm looking for at least one "Stereo Dimensional Array" badge for my 2.3's. Anyone know of a possible source? I've talked to Polk CS and of course any they had are long gone. I'm thinking maybe a local sign or trophy shop could reproduce them? Thoughts?

I was looking for badges at one point for a pair of Monitor 5jr+s. eBay was the only source I could find to get them, and even then it wasn't easy finding the exact sized ones I needed. Work has a 3D printer available, and I was thinking about trying to replicate them using this newer technology. Because those badges have relief to them, I think it would be possible - however they would be all black and need to have the gold leaf on the top hand painted. Not an ideal solution, but a thought.

I don't know if the 2.3s have a relief to the badge or not and if that would work. If they do, maybe that would be a way to try to see if you could replicate the badges. 3D printers aren't easy to come by yet, but I think they will be more so in the future. I can try to see if it's possible to do something like that at work with badges that I have, but if I were to be able to do one for a 2.3 series speaker I would need a badge to replicate.

I see badges on eBay all the time. The old style black with brushed aluminum, and the newer type, black with gold paint. Save a search on eBay, and check back often.

The badges for the SRS designated models are much different than the other models that have "Polk Audio" badges. There are even slight differences between the SRS plate badges, one having a textured surface and the other being smooth. IIRC, there was one even one SRS version that was a thinner metal plate that did not have the attachment pins on the back or the rasied lettering.

I like the 3D printer idea. Maybe Huh What? can send his plate badge to GospelTruth to see if it can be done.

Thanks for the input. I've been searching eBay for a while now with no luck. I'd be up for sending the one I have to GospelTruth and try the 3d printer. Costs involved? Do they let you do this kind of thing where you work, or would this be asking for trouble?

I'm going to try to replicate one of the badges from my 5jr+ first just to see how good they will come out. If they work good, I'll let you know and we can go from there. Work shouldn't mind too much. My wife and I both work at the University and she specifically works with the folks in charge of the 3D printing. I'm sure if it's possible, we can do a few.

I don't know what cost will be either. They would only charge for the plastic used, so I'm guessing around $10/badge or so + shipping.

I'll let you know how things go with the initial test.

Just an update. I haven't been able to get my badge to the 3D printer guys this week. I'll have to do it Monday or Tuesday of next week.

I have no idea how much it will cost. I'm going to bring one of my badges down from a monitor 5jr and see if they come out good or not. If they do, I'll see about trying some other ones. I'm sure I would have a good estimate on how much it would cost by that point.

Just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgot about these. The 3D scanner was out of commission for the past week, and I finally got a call today to bring down my test "badge". They said they will have it done hopefully in the next day or two - so I'll let you know what the results look like. I don't know what the cost will be yet. On a side note, my wife is about ready to pop with our first child. If that happens in the next day or so, I hope you'll excuse me if I don't respond to this thread for a little while.

We have 3 of the 3d printers at work. I can work up a test model but Just throwing the offer out if gospeltruth is pretty tied up with the new baby.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes. Would help out if I can.

It's been great being a new parent, but where does the time go??? I have been off work helping out at home with our little boy and my wife who had a cesarean. I tried to get in touch with the guy at the University who handles the 3D printer stuff, but he's been busy as well. This isn't going as fast as I had hoped it would - I guess a lot of people on campus want to use the 3D printer.

If you have more direct access to a 3D printer, I say go for it. I was just wanting to try this out and see if it could be done. I don't need to be the one to actually do this. I wish I had more time to follow up at work and get this done, but it seems like this is going to be more difficult than I had imagined with a shared 3D printer on campus.

Let me know if you can get this done and what the results are.

Maybe for the guy who needs logos/ bdges for the 5jrs.Of course they had just about every other maker both out of buiness and those still producing speakers showing.Besides c/s is there any way to call main office to plead your case..

So I have the go ahead to try a sample on the printer. Unfortunately my SRS's are missing their badges also.

Is there someone willing to send me a badge short term to give this a shot?

An alternative to sending an actual badge is if someone could send a cad drawing in .stl
