Of course a congratulations is in order. But, if no one minds my asking, can someone please explain to me in layman's terms exactly why other manufacturers aren't producing similarly powered amps that don't require he-man arms to lift? If I understand D-Sonic's website correctly, a 400x3 weighs less than 30 lbs. What is their secret? Thanks.

In Layman's terms...because it's much easier to reproduce old technology than to try to design something new! The money spent in developing a new technology or design is much higher than just altering the cosmetics of an amp and calling it a new model! lol And other companies have made lightweight "powerhouse amps. The 350WPC Carver M1.5t weighed under 20lbs.

Because weight isn't the main criteria. How it sounds is.

    Bob,
At your listening levels, you sure your not hitting the Logan's limits for that harsh top end instead of thinking it's the amp ?

Good point! However,I was using a db meter with the BAT,and the db were the same! And from everything I read, and heard, the montis's can go real loud, without much strain! Maybee they are!
There is a lot of weight in the middle, and lower frequencies! So far, this may be a keeper! But I've got a lot more listening to do,before I make any rash decision!

Ding! Ding! Ding! It sounds like we have a winner. The more you listen you'll pick up more of the amps muscle, it's subtle capabilities & just it's pure musicality. Keep on listening....it only gets better.

Put simply the Class D output stage with it's 90% ish efficiency negates the need for large heat sinking because unlike typical Class A/B designs most of the power is used to drive the speaker load, not pissing 50-60% of it away in the form heat.Powering it with a switched mode power supply (SMPS) means no beefy toroidal transformers or large filter caps are required.Adding it up results in considerable savings in both weight and space requirements.

    That's not what I read.

I will say this: After listening to a piece of equipment for a long time, when I switch to a new piece I almost always listen with rose colored glasses initially, for a couple of reasons: 1, I want to justify my purchase, and 2, my ear is likely to take for granted what the old piece did well, meaning that I'm more likely to pay attention to what the new piece does better rather than what it does worse.

In my experience it takes a long time to make a decision between similar quality pieces of gear.

So pearsall, while I'm glad that you enjoy the d-sonic's "muscle, it's subtle capabilities & just its pure musicality", you would be mistaken to assume that the VK-500 does not possess those same qualities.

This post is 100% objective and is in no way defensive of the BAT because I own one...:cheesygrin:
