I handle the beer consumption; the girl takes care of the wine side of things. That being said, if you're ever in VA, central VA specifically has some nice vineyards. Look around Charlottesville or Culpeper, and you can certainly find a wide variety of options.

Brand-wise, I'd recommend Casillero de Diablo, and specifically their Carmenere. This is a consistent crowd pleaser at my house, and is usually between 10 and 12 bucks a bottle. Great choice for a "don't break the bank" bottle.

Yes good point! We wine-tasted at several places in the C-ville environs when we visited our son down there (in grad school at UVA) two summers ago.

We had numerous very respectable wines on a quick tour of several wineries in the general vicinity.
Dave Matthews' winery was pretty cool, as I recall :-)

Good shot of the rotunda there. Nice, was he at Darden?

And yes, I was surprised at the amount of good vineyards in the area. I think King Family has polo matches at theirs either once a month or every weekend, can't remember which.

Most sell their lower grade Cabs Dan, not the reserve Cabs. Still, their lower level cabs are better than most others higher lines. Listen, you can call them up and just order some you know. Every so often I call for 6 bottles but the shipping is a killer. Next time I place an order, I'll give ya a heads up if you want something. Pretty sure shipping from me to you would be squat compared to what they charge. Also, get on their mailing list, sometimes they run specials with free shipping which is well worth it.

This place has some Rutherford Reserve Cab, 2007 Don't know if it's close to you or not.

Thank you very much man , thats so very kind. Yes let me know the next time you put in an order.
On that note I'm extremely happy with Frank Family's Lower Grade Cab's , they are amazing and agreed better then most other Cab's. I never knew California has such good wine. I always thought they where average at best without trying so many of them. Boy has my opinion changed.

Yeah man, you really have to go there to appreciate all California wines have to offer. Another note for you Dan if you do order wine direct, Frank Family will hold that wine until weather conditions are such that it won't hurt it. Once I wanted a Reserve Chardonnay for a summer party and order a case. I was told of the risk but insisted they ship. They tried to put ice paks in the case but to no avail, it arrived spoiled from the heat of the summer. They were kind enough to replace that case come fall when cooler weather prevailed.

If you dig California wines, try west coast oysters if that's your thing. I've had some flown in from Washington State too. Had some while in Napa and fell in love with them. The wife and I sit out on the deck at home, drink Frank Family, and eat 4 dozen west coast oysters ourselves. That's primo living my friend, give it a whirl.

I met Dennis at Frank Family , we had a Private tasting , it was awesome. I'm not surprised they took care of you on the spoiled wine. Oysters are awesome and sounds like a good meal plan. Thanks for the suggestions man.
