AMR 90 Makes a popping/stuttering noise

The AMR 90s that I have hooked to my computer make a very loud popping or stuttering noise. The noise originally started when they were left on and not in use. The noise sounds like someone shooting a machine gun. It seems to come only from the front channels (mostly left front). Recently, however, it has started while using the speakers as well. I have checked and rechecked all the connections and polarity several times. Any ideas?
