I have a pair of SDA's, 2 tweeters, 3 midrange and sub woofer. Where can I get them reconditioned and upgraded? I live in NJ and would prefer to drop off and pick up instead of shipping.

I have SDA 2's. No issues but I thought that after 30 years some sort of maintenance is required. I have a Carver MXR 130 receiver and a Carver TFM 25 power amp. I noticed on the back of the SDA's that they should not be used " bridged" to amp/receiver. Could someone explain?

Some stereo and multi-channel amplifiers are readily "bridged" in the field. Bridging involves connecting two amplifier channels together so as to provide more power to the speakers. The typical increase is 3X the power of the single channel. So, for example, a "100 watt" bridgeable stereo amplifier becomes a "300 watt" bridged mono amplifier.

Problem is, that the SDA circuitry in the Polk speakers becomes VERY unhappy with the ground path of bridged amplifiers. SOME SDA speakers can be used with an isolation transformer in the SDA cable, earlier SDA speakers are just flat-out NOT compatible with bridged amps. Your SDA 2s are the "NOT compatible" kind.

Question, when my Carver MXR 130 & TFM 25 get back from Oregon for rehab, can I bridge them and use my SDA 2's without the connecting cord?

Yes, but if you don't use the SDA cable, you might as well sell them.

Hang on a sec.....what are you wanting to bridge? You've only got one amp.

I don't have to bridge, I can use the Carver TFM 25 to power the Polks and the carver MXR 130 receiver to power the rm8's. Is someway with a "Y" cord, I was talking to Roland Barr from HI tech audio in Oregon, who serviced my Carver, but something got lost in the translation.

I believe he meant to install y connectors in place of the pre-amp out/main-amp in jumpers, so you could feed both the receivers internal amp, as well as the external TFM-25.
