How high from the floor should rear speakers be? I have Polk SDA 2's for the front and Polk RM8's for the rear.

I like mine about a foot or two above ear level, kind of a personal preference. You can do anything from ear level to in-ceiling so it's up to you.

Most recommend that your speakers are all at ear level or just above ear level. This includes the center, front speakers, side speakers, and even rear speakers.

Rear speakers can be placed behind you on stands, mounted on a wall behind you, or on the ceiling above or behind you. It would all depend on the size of your room and if you are able to place speakers behind you or not. If you are limited on room size then I would recommend that you mount your speakers above and behind you. Depending on your mounting options you may be able to place them in a position where they are firing sound directly at the listening area. They should be mounted at your ear level or above ear level. Don't place the rear speakers to close to each other. Widen them out for best results. Most receivers these days will have a microphone that can be used to calibrate your speakers. This means that the volume on the speakers will be automatically adjusted even if you place them too high above ear level or it will lower the volume if they are placed at ear level.

Dolby Labs suggests surround speakers be mounted just above ear level.
