The tweeters in #39 are without question, SL2000's as indicated by the exposed leads on the tweeter bezel.Political Correctness'.........defined

8 total but one isn't making music. When I have a minute I was going to pull it and see if a wire is disconnected.
I have to let my slush fund recuperate before the mods begin.
Are all 8 tweeters exactly the same? The Gear... It looks like the MW's are held in place (at least the one pictured) with socket head cap screws, not the button head screws I had on my 2.3TL's. I don't believe this is stock, which is another indication someone has been inside the speakers.
Wonder if all the MW's are correct?"Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
So I'll post the pictures of the back of 4 drivers.
I should have paid closer attention as I have 4 sl2000 in the left side and 4 sl3000 in the right side -

It looks to me like two speakers from different runs. These speakers were not sold by Polk as a pair. Perhaps the original selling location had two sets on display and mis-matched them when they were sold. The SL3000's regardless, were not original issue on either speaker.
I would order 4 tweets (RDO194's) from Polk and run two new and two SL2000 in each cabinet for now and sell of the 3000's that you currently have They should at least be performance matched that way and you can do further upgrades later. The Gear... In that case, your right speaker has 4 wrong tweeters in it.looks like they were built a year apart?
Yep and explains why your serial numbers are so far apart. It would be interesting to know how these two came together, but I seriously doubt was Polk's doing.Political Correctness'.........defined

In the mean time would swapping two 2000's and 3000's be any benefit? -
Other than the tweeters is there anything different that while doing upgrades I should watch out for?

On the surface of it, everything should get sorted out during the reconditioning. I would not run SL2k's and 3k's together. The best solution is order 4 from Polk and set them up with the new ones placed second and third from the top and the old ones in the top and bottom locations. This should at least get them equal to one another in terms of performance. Once you move into the crossovers, we can address them as the need arises. The Gear... Thanks to everyone for the help. I really appreciate it.
I plan on tweets in the nextonth or so. I'd like to change them all at once.
I'm excited to make these new (and match) again. With 2 young kids it will just be a slow process. -
In the mean time download and read the SDA Handbook.
By doing that you will start to see how everything comes together
and be able to make an accurate inventory
of what you have verses what it says your should have in each speaker.POLK SDA 2.3 TLS BOUGHT NEW IN 1990, Gimpod/Sonic Caps/Mills RDO-198

Yea I live dangerous. That's why I didn't just tell him (recommend) to go and do that in time I may be sorry.
It did clean and make the rubber very black with a silky shine though.
I used very very little with cotton balls and one inch brush then a very soft cloth.I WOULD NOT use any silicone containing products on these it "could" migrate under the glue on the rubber surrounds and compromise the glue.
Did these come with both types of tweeters?POLK SDA 2.3 TLS BOUGHT NEW IN 1990, Gimpod/Sonic Caps/Mills RDO-198

Sorry if i missed someone else mentioning this but it could be entirely possible from the information provided so far that the OP has to different models, say a SRS and a 1.2TL or a 1.2 and a 1.2 TL. This would be possible if the original owner was telling the truth about never touching them. I would be interested to see the interconnect sockets on each as well as drivers for each clearly labeled as to which socket goes with which drivers which goes with which tweeters as well as the crossovers. One could then be able to tell definitively what speakers these are.
If this is the case it could throw a wrench in the tweeter mods and make that not so simple as the 194's and 198's are not interchangeable as a plug and play situation. Some crossover mods may need to be made in one cabinet to get close to a match. If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

Yea with these I would good completely through them making note or the crossover model, mw's tweeters and dates even the Sub Bass radiator to see exactly what I have before getting started.Mr. Bubbles wrote: »Sorry if i missed someone else mentioning this but it could be entirely possible from the information provided so far that the OP has to different models, say a SRS and a 1.2TL or a 1.2 and a 1.2 TL. This will take some time. I have a lot on my plate the next few weeks.
I don't mind taking things apart with photos or whatever to help the future upgrades.
When you say interconnects do you mean the cables inside connecting everything to the crossover?
Since I'm relatively new to these monsters please feel free to treat me mike a dumb dumb. I'd like to take them apart just once for documentation. -

His speakers are SDA SRS's as evidenced by the information already gathered. Solid end caps, older crossover plates, the blade/blade SDA cable, all the drivers are MW6503's and the serial numbers are too low to be anything else. Case closed.Political Correctness'.........defined

Yea that is correct as to what they were in there original form.
But who or has someone has been messing around in there?
I mean I checked out my 2nd hand 1C's
You know I bought a 70 Chevelle SS 396 and some goof ball had put a Pontiac rear end in it so I had to get a custom drive shaft built when it broke. His speakers are SDA SRS's as evidenced by the information already gathered.
