So I might have a line on some sda srs's tonight. What should I look for besides sound?

They are from 88 or 89 the fellow said.

Thanks for any suggestions

Makes sure all the drivers freely move out and in when you push on the passive radiator.
You can also push on each mid woofer gently to make sure they are not frozen.
Take a magazine and roll it to listen to each tweeter.
    Good luck!

    Klipsch RB81, KG3.5, B&W DM602.5, Polk.
Subwoofers: Klipsch RW10, Triad ProSub Bronze.

Given the year made, they may be 1.2's or 1.2TL's

Make sure they are using and including the SDA interconnect cable. Also look for corrosion around the hardware, and water damage to the cabinets.

Given the pic, I think they are TL's as they seem to have the sl3000 tweeter, but they have the older style XO plate... that price is a huge steal BTW regardless of the series. I would not even waste a breath trying to negotiate that one.

So even with a bad driver or tweeter it's a good price.

Just hope someone spent beat me to them.

If they are out of the box MINT looking, the answer would be yes. I paid about that much for mine with three blown tweeters... destroyed end caps and torn grill cloth.

They are now mint, but it cost another grand to get them there. Keep in mind that there are easy to moderate modifications and upgrades to do on these as well, that will improve the speaker to performance levels you must hear to believe.

In the back of my truck on the way home.

One scratchy driver and one tweeter not making any sound.

He lowered the price to $100 to cover them

The fabric has a couple holes but I'm pretty handy with the tools.

    Pics or it didn't happen:biggrin:

Get the grill cloth from Magnepan. Ask for the stuff they put on the outside of the MG-20-7. This is by far the nicest cloth I have ever used. It should be about 6 yards for $120.00 with a bit left over if you make a mistake.

If you could confirm if they are SRS, SRS 1.2 or SRS 1.2TL, that would be cool. Serial number on the back will help out or pop a tweeter and see if they are sl3000.

I didn't think to look while I was there

Also still in the back of my ute. Too heavy for the wife to help.

Do the tweets have a black foam ring around them?

Polk never used consecutive serial numbers, but those are really far apart.

I don't think Polk started new serial numbers for the 1.2 and 1.2TL's, so the serial numbers indicate you have SDA SRS's. If they have SL3000 tweeters, they are the wrong ones.

So the tweeters with the foam are sl3000? And the serial numbers I have indicate the wrong tweeters are in them?

    Pictures will help more.

Edit: Also, did you really pay $100 for a pair of SRS'?

I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow. Birthday and grad part so times a little tight. I promise to post some though.

I paid $400 for them. Posted for $500 but talked down cause of a scratchy driver and a tweeter not making sound.

Yes, if I am correct about Polk not changing the serial numbers with the later models.

I noted a comment about the crossover plate being the older SDA SRS style. Did John see a picture of the speakers you just bought?

Here's a question for you. The wood cap at the top, is it veneer or solid wood? You can easily tell by looking at the left or right side of the cap. If you see end grain and joint lines, it's solid wood.

Your SDA cable will be terminated with a blade/blade connector, correct?

    Seller pulled the ad.

I know sometimes people don't tell the truth. I asked him twice it the tweeters were replace and he said no.
Said he bought new in 88 or 89 in Utah and didn't change a thing.

Thanks for jumping in Jesse. Those definitely looked like the sl3k's to me, but that XO plate was rather confusing. The sl's are worth about 30 bucks each on Ebay, so the new tweets would run about 250 or so given Polk discount and selling the old ones. I think that would be my first move /upgrade on these. Once it is firmly established which ones go in these that is.

    Correct

Solid end caps, older crossover plate and the dead give away, the blade/blade SDA cable means you are the proud new owner of SDA SRS's.

Entirely plausible that the original owner did the mod himself, but they are not correct for the speaker. Grab some RDO 194's and sell the SL3000's on eba.

Congrats on the speakers... for 400 bucks, you STOLE those, so ROCK 'em like you swiped 'em!
