The 8ts are ported right? They won't perform like the 11s

Yes but they had SL3000 tweeters.

OP has 10A's with peerless so these 11T with SL2000 may not sound as good to him.
In any case, $160 plus refinish plus RDO tweeters will put him pretty high on the bucks.

    Klipsch RB81, KG3.5, B&W DM602.5, Polk.
Subwoofers: Klipsch RW10, Triad ProSub Bronze.

Agreed, but that's never stopped me when I gotta have what I gotta have.

Well, the guy hasn't gotten back to me since I last emailed him three hours ago. It is a work day for most so that's understandable to a point. I may go for broke and offer a $100. There's a lot of work there cabinet wise, and I didn't mention it but the grills need some attention too.

I haven't been in this group long but I sure appreciate your responses. I guess what I'm looking for is Monitor 10 "Peerless" sound in a slightly thinner tower. What I'm hearing is that the 11s may not achieve that, but that some of the newer Polks might. I just have a real hard time with "modern" looking speakers. Sometimes I wish I had bought the 7s instead.. but in my 25 yr old head in '85, bigger was better!

That would not have solved the problem.
    7's are just 2 inches less wide/narrower.

    Monitor 7 Cabinet Dimensions
    Height 24" (60.96cm)
    Width 13" (33.02cm)
    Depth 10" (25.40cm)

    Monitor 10 Cabinet Dimensions
    Height 28" (71.12cm)
    Width 15" (38.10cm)
    Depth 12" (30.48cm)

If you really want slim but vintage, may be time to look at other brands.
    Don't hate me Polkies.

No, you're right. I just thought the Monitor 7 design would be a nice compromise for my wife and I. I'm going to continue and look for some.

Today I bought some MINT Monitor 5jrs on eBay. I'm picking them up tonight. I would have liked to have found the 8" radiator design but I settled with the 6.5 version. Probably won't make too much difference? I'll probably get a subwoofer involved at some point but for now (and for $70), it's a start. At least I'll have music again!
