Any 'Dexter' fans here?

I'm over at Amazon, trying to find something to watch, but I'm not sure if this show is for me? The premise sounds interesting, but IF it has a bunch of gruesome, over the top scenes, like the 'ear' scene from 'Reservoir Dogs', then I'll skip it.
Thanks for any feedback:neutral:

It's great but if the ear scene in Dogs was too much, the blood and guts of Dexter will be over the top.

One of the best shows on tv, very well written, but yeah may be over the top for you.

Dexter is one of those shows where you'll likely know immediately if you're going to like it. Try the very first episode and you'll know after that if you'll like it or not.

Great show, and the early seasons are especially good, imo. I didn't think there was a way to make a serial killer "likeable" but they did a good job with Dexter's character. But as far as blood goes, yeah, he job is as a blood splatter expert, if that tells you anything.

If you want something much tamer but even better check out Downton Abbey on Amazon Prime.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess if Dexter just dispatched the baddies, without the torture, it'd suit me a little better.
Oh well. I'll just keep shopping.

Dexter has a "code"...he only eliminates the bad guys that murder innocent people, no torture. I think it is an excellent series and very well done!

Dexter isn't on Netflix or Hulu+ that I could find. It is on Amazon, but not Amazon Prime, so not free.

Will have to check it out, or look for someone selling the dvds. Heard it was a great series.

Watch the first episode and make a choice. The first episode was so good I jumped right into the entire series. I could not stop watching. I watched all three seasons in a few weeks. Now im up to season 8 on showtime. The series is very well done. Watch that opening intro with 5.1 enabled, sounds cool.

My wife loves that show, so much that I had to hide all the kitchen knifes/power tools/garbage bags.

Some things just bug me about that show. Your in Miami yet I've never seen so many long sleeve shirts being worn. Your in the everglades, we all know what lives there, yet the police use inflatable rafts....huh ?

Yeah, I did a couple of 'previews' over on YT, and it doesn't seem like it's as bad as I originally thought.

Tastefully gruesome, if there is such a thing. I wouldn't let little kids watch it but my wife and I love it. One of my favorite shows of all time.

While I have heard of it, I have not seen it. Based on this thread, it looks like I need to at least buy season 1 on BR. Are the episodes 30 or 60 minutes?

Good. I dislike 30 minute shows since you need more time to develop characters and plots.

I agree 30 min is not adequate time for character/plot development..

I don't get this channel that Dexter is on, but I've heard that Yvonne Strahovski has a role on it. I miss her on the Chuck series, what a sweetheart she played on it.

She's a REAL sweetheart on Dexter, too.

It's a tossup between Dexter and Shameless for the best shows on showtime.
