TV Screen Mounting Height

I recently bought a Panny 42" plasma (TC-P42S60) and must say the picture is fantastic. Coming from a 27" Sony Trinitron, I am new to the flat screen world and was wondering if there is an ideal height for mounting the screen on a wall? I did get a tilting mount.

Thanks
Stan

I think anything that doesn't require you to strain your viewing angle. Even with a tilt mount if you have to watch in an upward angle (above a fireplace) is not comfortable, so set it up so when you are in your favorite viewing position your head and neck is in a neutral position. Enjoy the new display!

Some theories say from your comfy sitting position that your eye level should be mid way on the screen. Personally, I think that's ideal, though mine is slightly higher due to the stand I'm presently using. I have a 42" Panny as well (and a 60") I'm sure you'll love it! The salesman was right though when he said "Everyday after you set up your big screen, it gets smaller."

When I install peoples tvs I have them sit in their tv watch position, Look away from the tv for a few seconds and then quickly glance at the TV wall. The point that their eyes see first with out focusing is where the center of the screen should be. 90% of people want the tv about a foot to high.

The tilt mount really only serves two functions, either a TV has to be mounted much higher then ideal, or for giving the most access if you change cables often.

While true, that might not be the "ideal" height, which is what he asked.

The comment about having the big screen over the fire place is true..... it is a pain in the neck looking up to watch it. ( I know I did it, and regret it.) the height of your eye ball when sitting is where the center of the screen should be, so take into account the furniture that you have , and lighting sources that might reflect on the screen, as well as glass top tables and fans. that should get you a base point of where to start

It would be "ideal" for him since he's the one that has to look at it.

About 42 inches to 1/3 of the screen. Basically your eyes should be at the 1/3 point of the screen. This usually works in most cases. You can hang it at the 1/2 point or exactly at eye height to dead center of screen. 30 deg is max height from center of screen. If you go higher expect neck problems.
Think about a TV stand with a TV sitting on top of it. It's very comfortable to watch.

put the center of the screen at your eye height.
So sit in the chair/sofa/beanbag youre going to use and put your eyes at rest. now put the center of that screen at that height.
