It's getting mixed reviews, anyone seen it yet? I'm looking forward to it, the wife thinks it looks too intense or heavy for a Superman movie, she may be right. I bought the score for it today and really like it, hoping to catch the movie at some point this weekend.

I just got back and have some points without any spoilers.
I felt the movie went to fast. They glazed over the story and didn't explain enough. They jumped right past some things and then jumped right into others.
Even with that in mind , I still loved the movie. As a fan of all things Superman , they had a few people from Smallville in it. That was pretty cool. I counted 3 but there might have been 4.
Henry really pulled off Superman , very believable which was one thing I was worried about. Zod was amazing and very true to the role.
If your a Superman fan , this film will dazzle you. You really get to see Superman , it's chilling sometimes when he was flying. If you are young and new to Superman , you'll still enjoy it but will leave wanting much more.
I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5.Dan

Glad to hear that, Mantis, I plan on going this weekend and was on the fence about it. I grew up reading Superman and other DC comics but really loved the Marvel stuff more and have overall be very disappointed in the Superman movies made up to now. Offhand, I think the only DC movies I have enjoyed were the last 3 Batman movies with Christian Bale, hopefully this compares favorably with those.

I saw it yesterday and loved it!
You have to leave the old Christopher Reeve Superman behind. This is a brand new take on Supes!
I read a comic series about 3 years ago called Superman: Earth One. It was a spin on Superman that essentially had him growing up with the Kents, but struggling to find his way or understand who he is and the powers he has. With this movie, it really is...how would the world react to someone like him.
Henry Cavill nails Superman! He was a perfect choice. Michael Shannon as Zod is spot on. Very intense and commanding! I'm always happy to see Amy Adams!
I saw some reviewers who put the movie down, say something to the effect of...the real superman would have taken the battle away from Metropolis and not let all that destruction happen. Well, had they paid attention, they would have understood that he was still struggling with who he is and even if he should have battled them. By the time he figured it out, the battle was already there.
There were alot of other reviewers that couldn't seem to let go of the Christopher Reeve era Superman and kept trying to compare. Really, let it go! The look, the feel, everything is different. Go see it and enjoy!
BTW, I found myself wanting Faora out of that metal suit and fighting in her tight suit! Yeah, she's hot!No excuses! -
Does it have the same dark cinematic feel that Nolan gives to batman and to Inception. I love his take on those movies you really feel that you are part of the deep emotional parts of the movies. I have been really looking forward to seeing how his talents will be shown in a movie that has always been a bright "happy" feel, for lack of a better word.HT Rig Samsung 64F8500 |Pioneer Elite BDP-52FD|Pioneer Elite VSX-32| Two Carver TFM-15cb Bridged for mains|Polk Audio RTiA5 Cherry|Polk Audio CsiA6 Cherry|Polk Audio T-15 Heights|Polk Audio FXia6 Surround|DIY 8cuft Dayton Ultimax 15" powered with a Crown XLS1000

We saw it this morning and I really liked it. It may be my new favorite for comic book / superhero movies, I'll need some time to digest

I went today with my wife and loved it. It really surprises me how much I liked it. Part of it, I am sure, is my low expectations but it was far better than those. Great action, good story and Henry Cavill made a very good Stranger in a Strange Land Superman.

Thought is was OK. Not really a fan of a lot of the re-write of the original because a lot of it seemed too WHIMSICAL. Especially some of the stuff on Krypton--hardly believable at points. Amy Adams as Lois Lane? I don't t think that works!
Action? Sure lots and lots. But frankly, I could SEE the CGI and a LOT of it looked very very artificial for this POINT in TIME!
On the positive side. Cavill did a good job, certainly fits the part and all the women/girls I know think he's "hot"!
I think this is really a generational thing. If you grew up with this stuff and the comics there is only so much license that you're willing to give up before you say, enough already--this is not an "anything is possible" template. Don't disagree with the reviews above. It's just that I'm NOT simply an ACTION guy--you have to do MORE than that and with less "obvious" CGI effects. And going DARK? Well if you want to do that. I have some ideas: Darkseid and forget about Zod!
This is not a bad film. There is nothing boring for such a long film but, as a fan, I was not that impressed with the script.
Hope I didn't reveal any spoilers. A good action film but not a great Superman film! I give it the 3 stars it deserves. Hey, it's Hollywood, what do you expect? Kurosawa meets Shakespeare and pens Superman? Now that WOULD BE SOMETHING!
Maybe Nolan should stick to the Dark Knight! Or not. That said I should also point out that I thought the second Batman film with Ledger was a director's mess--needed some SERIOUS cutting time on the EDITOR'S desk! Wandered all over the place like a student project with a big H-wood budget!

Funny, I actually thought the CGI was pretty well done, much less cartoonish than something like the Marvel movies. My wife kept comparing it to the original after we saw it, so when we got home I made her watch the original movie, she changed her tune after that. I realize that people have a soft spot for the original and the comparisons are inevitable, but the original isn't exactly a theatrical masterpiece either. I would argue that both movies are equally flawed but in different ways, and I enjoyed the hell out of both of them.

Don't disagree there. Certainly the Donner films had faults as well and were campier than this vision.
When all is said and done, I think this film will be good for the next generation of viewers, kids who carry less "baggage", history, than us older dudes. And as that; as a newer vision. Sure...why not?
As for CGI. I do believe I may have been sitting too "close" to the screen because Costner looked a decade older than I and we're almost the same age? And you could see the five o'clock shadow on Cavill in almost every closeup? Watch the beard grow from scene to scene. lol

I want to see it again and really form a better opinion. It's such a ride you don't really get a chance to catch your breath.Dan

I am not a big fan of 3D, but I do kind of think I might have enjoyed it with this movie. Tons of stuff flying and falling through the air - might have been fun.
-
I have seen it. TWICE.
It isn't epic but it is till date the best reboot of Superman. And the way it has been made, I think we might be in for a few more installments ala Dark Knight. -
Saw it in 3-D and although the acting was very top notch it really didn't do a whole lot for me. Might have to watch it again.

Just read on Yahoo that there will be a Superman/Batman team-up movie in 2015. That could be fun. I didn't see who would be playing Batman, but I think Christian Bale's run as The Dark Knight are over.

Yeah this could be very fun! Christian Bale is done. Many are hoping Joseph Gordon Levitt takes over, since it was hinted at with the ending of Dark Knight Rises. No excuses! -

Yeah, JGL could make a good Batman, just so they don't try to turn him into Robin, his middle name.
