Record cleaning fluid

Just wondering if someone is using this formula..
I was told by a vinyl hound that record cleaning fluid is a ripoff, so he said to use just distilled water and a teaspoon of Jet dry to act as a surface tension breaker so the water gets into the grooves..
Now I Jet Dry for us in Canada is used in dishwashers with dishwashers soap..
Not sure if its the same stuff in the USA or a different name?
Anyway just wondering if it works good or is that not a good idea to use on records?

    Well I have a Spin Clean and I just buy the bottle and use distilled water.
    It's not much and it lasts forever.
    But you know that (Jet Dry) sounds like it might be the same thing.

    Ive also heard of using Dawn. I think youll find alot of different ways to make album cleaning salutions. Try different ways and find whats best for you. Nowwa days there is Utube and research online is very helpful IMO as i am somewhat new to playing albums after 35 plus years of not playing. Back in the 1960's when i was a kid it was the in thing....randy

    Polkieman I use the spin clean solution as well, but I just ran out so I was just checking to see if anyone else uses that method..
    Randy ill keep the Dawn in mind for next time..

    Ive never tried that. But i read something about it. Ive read people use windex too.(not sure thats good) But i use a different method i learnt from the vinyl guy in Brunswick showed me. I will have to look it up and see what its amounts were. I wouldnt want to tell and be wrong. I made up enough for my cleaning machine i have

    I have been using this for many years - 1 cup distilled water, 1/2 cup denatured alcohol, a few drops of Dawn detergent. Do not use it on old 78 rpm records that are real shellac.

    some 78's are shellac? how can you tell? what does it do to them?

    Almost all 78's are shellac and isopropyl alcohol will slowly melt them.

    This is uncool but I forgot who posted this method.It was washing your records in a tub of warm water diluted w/ Dawn dish detergent and a very soft and new paint brush. Step by step he hadshowed these holders that pin the record so the label doesn't get wet and you spin it at the same time.Apply the soapy water to the record use a micro fiber towel to dry and then let dish rack dry totally. I couldn't believe this until I tried it w/ a sacrificial album and went through the steps sans the holder and it sure looked 20x better and apparently played just as well.If your LPs are scratched nothing,no system no matter how expensive will fix bad deep scratches . I'm still waiting for the brush and fluid from Amazon for $15 to come any day now.
