Monitor 10a's... No center channel required!!??

So i just picked up a pair of vintage Monitor 10a's with the Peerless tweeters. And of course they are putting my Monitor 50's to shame! But i'm actually seriously thinking of taking the CS1 center channel out of the mix cause frankly i can't hear the need once the 10a's are doing there thing!!! Amazing sound!!! Any thought, is there center channel alive that can compliment these beauties!?

CS400i is the center of choice it seems with vintage Polks.

Otherwise, people tend to use other Monitors (5s, 7s) as their center.

CS350LS is also on top of the list for vintage Polks.

I used to run a Monitor 7 center and my RTA12C's with excellent results.

How about a Monitor 10 repurposed in a different enclosure with the MWs on either side of the tweeter, similar to the CsiA6 design?

I use a Monitor 4 as a center channel for my Monitor 10's (guess you'd love to have my peerless 4's).

It's a prototype right now. Custom cabinet, with two 6.5" PRs from Monitor 5s on either side of the woofers

Very cool. Have you thought about locating the passive radiators somewhere other than the front to make the baffle smaller?

I also run a pair of 10A's as my fronts with no sub or surrounds. I kept my center. I could hear the dialogue better with the center.

The front baffle is determined by the size of the enclosure. The front is the best place for the PRs.

Thanks Mytery, far from finished yet. Matches the timbre of my 2ATLs, which is the main reason for building it.

Looks like all the drivers from two M5's except the tweeter. Since you only use one tweeter do you have a frequency imbalance - more mid-range, less highs? Or did you increase the output of the tweeter with Xover mods?

No, the drivers and crossover are from a Monitor 10, which is designed for two woofers and one tweeter. Only the PRs are from a Monitor 5

I use a cs350 and it works well. I have an old pair of 10a's and westmass's project looks interesting.

I found a pair Monitor 4's on ebay! I plan to try them as a dual center rather than shell out for a CS350 right now...

I just got some Polk 10Bs with a Polk LF-14 subwoofer center. The LF-14 Cabinet is the same size as the 10B and contains only two MWs and a 12 inch passive. I wasn't real impressed with the LF-14 until I got the crossover set up right.

That's exactly what I do with my Monitor 4's: I assume yours has peerless tweets?

HChapman-

I'm using:

M10bs as front mains
M5 as a center
M4 as the surrounds

The only non matching speakers are the surrounds, as they do not have the Silver Coil tweets.

Sounds good to my ears that way it is.

Exactly!!! The monitor 4's have the peerless tweeters. Great sound, but one of the drivers arrived frozen!! So only using ONE monitor 4 as a center.
