Need advice for Monitor 70 speakers

I have a Yamaha RX-V567 avr and Polk monitor 70s series II and the speakers sound OK but I feel like they can sound better I just don't know how. It doesn't sound as clean or crisp as i'd like them to sound. Could it be the receiver? Or do these speakers sound a little muffled or muddy no matter which receiver or amp is being used? Blu rays, directv, video games all sound similar to me. Any way to improve the clarity of these speakers would be awesome even if its just a little bit. Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks!!

I just sold mine & they are great speakers. They have some frequencies where they were a hair laid back but never muddy or muffled. The highs were crisp & the bass punchy. I was powering them with a NAD 100wpc receiver. They do have a sweet spot so it is worth the effort to experiment with placement. I had the original Monitor 70s with 4 drivers & the tweeter. I'm assuming we're talking about the same series. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Placement is key as bob suggested experiment. I briefly thought my 70's were muddy as well I moved them around a bit now they sound wonderful.Oh, Listen here mister. Would help if we knew the rest of the gear, cables used, placement, if you set up the receiver properly, subwoofer ? Crossover settings ? Can't just blame the speaker for poor sound.HT SYSTEM-

One thing I found out with my 70s is that they sounded good on my AVR (Yamaha RX-A1000)...but they sounded REALLY good being powered by one of my Adcom GFA-555s.
Placement is very key and will make a huge difference. Placed close to the back and side walls, I really wasn't impressed by them but moving them out from the walls a bit (limited space for me) made a significant difference."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Lots of people say they open up with more power from a dedicated amp. Also try your sound with the receiver set to straight or direct. It could be a eq setting. YAPO gets confused sometimes, It will also try to make all your speakers perform the same, so if you have a pair of weak speakers for a rear it will try and accommodate them.

yeah thats what i keep hearing too. i've played with the settings and i did the best i could. i'm hoping theres something else in settings that i may have missed. i'm in the middle of moving to a new place so as soon as i setup my speakers i'm gonna dig deeper in to the settings. -
Bi wiring seemed to help also but I did not do back to back comparisons. Seemed to add some punch to the bass but again; thats an impression, not a fact.
