No sound when uverse set to output surround sound

So, I just set my VIP 2250 unit to output surround sound (DD 5.1 I believe), I have an optical cable running direct from the DVR to the SB and an HDMI running to the TV for the picture, for some reason I'm not getting any sound from the SB 6000.

Anyone have any advice?

    Yes, make sure the unit is set to output sound to optical and not HDMI. By default most devices output sound via HDMI.
