This is the one I am looking at. The Good One. It has the firebox in the front for even heat and smoke distribution.

Traeger's are GREAT, we very nearly picked one up last year---but the dealer did a little bait-n-switch that pissed me off, so I told them to keep it.

Got it from Costco with Life. Salesman gave me 3 bags, 2 rubs, 1 cookbook, 1 digital cookbook, kevlar cover, and fully assembled. The easy maintenance is factored in & besides no issue w/ the return.

When it comes to grills, the brand name really doesn't matter. I bought my current, and probably last one from a guy who makes them in his garage, about 13 years ago. It took 4 of us to load it in the pick-up, and unload it. About 10 years ago, I bought a 4 x 10 foot sheet of expanded metal to cut replacement cook/burn surfaces for it. I'm on replacement #2 currently, think I have 3 more of each left.

The thing to look for is thick steel, at least 1/4 inch. I grill a lot, so just opening the lid, which weighs about 30 pounds, gets a "what smells so good" comment. A good grill should last at least 25 years, if not a lifetime. The term grill should not be confused with the "outdoor stove", or gas grill. Yeah, I like it here in Texas.

I just use a weber cause they seal up tight. With charcoal the better you can control the air flow the more control you have over the temps. I can throw a fatty steak down on top of wood that is up in flames, put the lid on and smother the fire out, wich makes massive smoke. Think of blowing a candle out on a much larger scale. When its on fire it burns clean. When it smolders it smokes really heavy.

Just wanna update the Polks, I ditched the traeger n got on the Kamado Grill bandwagon for efficiency! No air leaks, traps the moisture, n taste....A no brainer.

Plus you get to cook over a live fire, not an electronic controlled fire box.

Any chance to fire it up yet. I have an electric smoker that I love by Masterbuilt and it performs brilliantly. Def have to try smoking some cheese in yours, good stuff for sure.

Traeger is ok but it's not efficient, burns too much pellets plus don't like the plug. The smoke taste in Traeger is quite average+ but I'm sure my Broil king Keg will be superior. Happy grilling Polks!
