SDA 1A opinions?

I picked up a pair of SDA 1As today with the original interconnect cable for $75.00. Everything works great and except for the owners cats having fun with the grill cloth they look great. I bought them with the intent to give to my father but I am curious as to what you all think of them. I will try and post pics tomorrow. My speaker buying seriously have to stop. Since joining this thread I picked up way to many speakers. Plus I am half way through a crossover upgrade on a pair of RTA 12s and already planning the mods for my 1Cs.

Had a set before and loved them. Bone stock. The sda array gives them a huge stage. Enjoy responsibly.

Never heard them but for the money spent I would say you got a steal!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I always wonder, when people are taking pics of their speakers, whether they are trying to sell them or just showing them off, why they quite often have the badges all kitty-wompus! In the case here, the grilles were first taken off to show how nice they were under the hood. Then, the grilles were put back on to shoot a pic of how nice they look dressed...Great! 'cept they had a piece of toilet paper stuck to their shoe!
Otherwise, a steal at the price paid. Hope you and your dad enjoy them.
I've heard several people (who I consider to be more in the know about this than me) say that they would disable the dimensional tweeter on them (any of the models with the side-by-side tweeters) for much better sound. -
Great deal! They appear to be in fine condition. Rebuild the crossovers, upgrade the tweeters, replace the grill cloth, and as mentioned, disconnect the dimensional tweeters. You'll have a kick-a** system.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Haha never noticed that till now
My father was a fan of my SDA 1Cs so I have no doubt he will enjoy these. Crossover upgrade is already in the works, I am talking with VR3 now. He has really gone out of his way to help me with my RTA 12 project so he definitely has my business with this upgrade. Tweeter upgrade is a simple enough, however I understand I might have to open the tweeter recesses up to make room for the replacements. The grill cloth has me stumped, where do I find it and what kind is close to the original?Speakers: TL Monitor 10s, RTA 11TLs, Fortes, Thiel CS 1.2

I meant to get a photo of the back but is it common to have two fuses on the back of SDA 1As?
Scratch this. I think I just ansered it looking at the schematic.Speakers: TL Monitor 10s, RTA 11TLs, Fortes, Thiel CS 1.2

I take post #10 back (can an admin please delete). I was looking at the schematic and it shows what appear to be the self-resetting semiconductors that I read about in the SDA handbook. I however have to fuses on the back of mine. Is this common?Speakers: TL Monitor 10s, RTA 11TLs, Fortes, Thiel CS 1.2

sorry to inform you but those are early SDA1A's as the SDA1 had ports on the top MW's
I have a pair of SDA1 signature and the plaque covers the filled ports and to the OP listen to them with AND without the dimensional tweeters I did not like the way they sounded with the dimensional fuse out to shut off the dimensional tweeter off but YMMV so try both ways. -

yes but as always they also came with SL2000 AND fuses on a few. If he has a big square XO plate that gives it all away. Small round= poly switches, big square= fuses. -

I would do nothing to them till your Dad gets a chance to setup and listen to them for a while. I had a cat get one of mine they make a fuzz buster that works pretty well if it's not too bad.
Any rate $75 is nothing, you got a good steal.

Of course I love mine:)
it is apparent that they never went through the 6 sigma classes..... -
I thought they were SDA 1s as well but they do not have the ports and below is a photo of back.westmassguy wrote: »Gotta love Polks transitional odditiesSpeakers: TL Monitor 10s, RTA 11TLs, Fortes, Thiel CS 1.2

To be honest those are the first ones i have seen with fuses and binding plate like that. Those fuses look all wrong also that wire looks like more than 1amp fast blow. I certinaly clean up the holders. I can't imagin what those look like inside as I know what mine look like with the fusing wires:cheesygrin:
