Interesting.. yeah it sounds pretty great right now I tell ya. Just running 5 channel right now with pure LSiM speakers and no sub. Movies I tried so far today was Fast and the Furious.. good to watch since I've watched it plenty of times in the past and I didn't notice much if anything missing from the lower bass. Then I watched Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift and damn was that nice! Plenty of low bass in the affects and the different soundtracks in the film.. Put a damn big smile on my face!
Currently feeling that these 705s with there 4 woofers is doing just fine in my room. Though for the decider i'm now running Jurassic Park. This should put an end to the debate for me.
I'm sure my wife would be thrilled to here your thoughts on my receiver. She knows about me looking for a new Amp and she has no clue and says says, "What? You already just bought a new receiver! You don't need another one!" hehe. Just maybe i'll be fine.. no way of knowing other then to get one and see if i'm missing something.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

Telling your wife that you are planning to use your current Receiver as a Pre-Amp and that you are getting an Amplifier, not another Receiver, is......like speaking in French to her, whatever language she did not master yet......
On second thought, the LSiMs having all the Power-Hungry Mid/Woofers compared to the LSis, especially that 706c and a pair of LSiM 702F/X having giant 6.5" Mid/Woofers, you may hear the difference with more power per channels. The 705s have Subwoofers anyway; so I think you might as well consider getting a less space-occupying amp, rather than a powered subwoofer. I would still consider setting the HPFs for all your speakers, except the Floorstanding 705s, to between 60-80 Hz to save power for the Mid/Woofers, Mid-Ranges, and Tweeters sections, even if you get an amplifier.
Good luck with your decision and getting an approval from your wife then! -
You miss the whole point of what an amplifier adds to a system Be. It is not about louder volume, it is about having the speakers operate to their full potential which means clearer dialog, hearing every detail of the music, better seperation of instruments, and better bass. It's about everything sounding nice and clear no matter where the volume knob is.
This is the point of having a powerful amp power your speakers.
And the whole point of having a subwoofer is so that it can handle all the really deep bass rather then the speakers struggling to do it all thereby not acheiving anything to it's full potential and everything sounding kind of muddled. With a sub handling the deep bass, the drivers in the speakers can focus on what they were really designed for which is mid range.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
Welp after watching Jurassic Park i'd say the low bass is just fine with those 705s.
If its good now I can imagine it would be great once I get a nice 200+ WATT per channel amp.
THe other thing with the sub is that I've always had it in the right corner next to the window and I know its not the best location but theres really no other spot but one and that's to the left of the front speakers near the other window.. so basicly between the 705 and the fire place. That's where I put it about a month ago and it sounded best there as it was not as boomy as the other corner.
I could just toss it back in the left corner next to the couch 2 feet from the wall and a foot from the other wall and see how that sounds but I don't feel i'm missing much since i'm sure the quality of bass is much better sounding from the towers over that 10 year old PSW 404b.. it does get low enough for the room and goes up to I believe 350 watts dynamic power.
I figure I could run my music and movies louder without bugging the **** out of the neighbors below without the really low bass cause I know the bass travels through the floor no prob as I can hear his when my house is quiet.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

Nice pictures of the setup.
I guess I would liked to convert the LSiM 703 for the Rear Surround Speakers and buy the LSiM 702F/X for the Side Surround Speakers, if I were to upgrade given your setup for the future; maybe even change the front from the LSi 705s to the LSiM 707s in the future to match the woofer size of 6.5" to the LSiM 706C, 703s, and even 702F/Xs.
It is my dream to have all LSiM series Home Theatre System setup!
