Hello!

Since I gave away my beloved LSi's a little while ago, in the FS section. I decided to have a pair of Salk's built. They will be the SongTower SuperCharged version w/ custom Seas W16 drivers. They were pricey, but I've been drooling over his speakers for years and had every reason to bite the bullet! Let the foreplay begin...

Thanks! :) I can't believe I did it, but I did purchase these without hearing them.

However, from all the reviews and hearing the regular ST's, I think I'm going to be quite pleased. The RAAL ribbon is going to be something to be heard, my anticipation is HIGH!

Just the basic satin black, 1" cabinet. Wanted the curly cherry dyed black, but decided to stay more universal. Debated getting bamboo, but decided the extra cost wasn't for me. Instead, I opted for the larger Seas W16, replacing the stock supercharged W15's. This also added 2" to the depth of the cabinet. In essence, I am getting a custom made Songtower that is almost a Veracity HT2-TL. I will be using dual SVS Ultra SB13's for the bottom end.

Translation: Ryan quite literally got a steal of a deal on my LSis so now I am going to show him by upgrading!

I am a HUGE fan of the Seas W16. Would love to build a pair of DIYs some day around 4 of those per side.
I am not so much a fan of ribbon tweeters though...but then I haven't really had a lot of listening to them on a system with good overall synergy.
Looking forward to reading your thoughts...and most likely stopping by for a listen sometime on my way to Indy. Hehe.

Thanks guys! I'm quite excited to get them!

Ryan, you are correct! haha! ;) Have you heard the RAAL version of the ribbon tweeter? They are a bit different than the normal ribbon that some might be accustomed to. I can't find any negative reviews on Salk's RAAL that they use. They use the same ribbon in their SoundScape line, which can cost almost 20k.

I haven't. My ribbon experience is pretty limited. Although, the ProAc D-40 and Carbon Pro 6 both sounded pretty good for ribbons.

The OEM RAAL ribbon is the best ribbon I've come across yet.

i'm not that crazy about ribbons either, it's domes for me. the only use of ribbons that i like is the dali use in their high frequency module where they have a dome tweeter with a ribbon tweeter used as a supertweeter.

Have you heard the Salks? Philharmonic uses the same RAAL as well, along with several other high-end speaker makers. Actually, Dennis Murphy from Philharmonic, designs the crossovers for Jim/Salk. Like I said, these 'Ribbons' are not the everyday ribbon tweeter.

yea those RAALs really are awesome.

My dad just took ownership of a pair of HT3's with matching center. They sound AWESOME. I absolutely LOVE that RAAL.

My main speakers are Magnepan 3.7's, and his HT3's had me rethinking my setup...

    Congrats!

DANGIT! I don't need more speakers (yet)! Stop trying to sell me on em! Hehe.

I did notice that the ribbon only show up in ProAcs lineup farther up in the cost spectrum.
