Looking for a little direction from of knowledgeable folks here. My current system is the following and I know I can always move up, but it's what my budget allowed.

SDA-1C Modded
Denon DRA-397
Emotiva XPA-2
Squeezebox Touch
Sony TT

I wouldn't say I am unhappy with the sound, but I feel some tweaking could make things better. Currently the speakers are 12" from the back wall and 9" from the side walls. The TV and stand can't be move because of the cable feed. My first thought was to move the equipment rack out of the area and maybe see if I could add some room treatments. So feel free to let me know what I am doing wrong with my placement.

Any chance of putting the TV on the wall, then put all the gear on the TV stand? That would allow you to move the SDA's away from the side walls, which will improve their performance.

Not at this time. It's a older DLP so you can't mount it. So you feel there to close to side wall?

Your 1Cs should be 5'-6' apart and 3' from side walls. Wall treatments will help also.

The Touch would be greatly improved by a nice out-board DAC and probably even a PS upgrade.

Much, much too close. As thsmith stated, they should be AT LEAST 3' from the side walls. As Marv suggested, can you move them to the longer wall (if it is a longer wall)?

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

The space they are in is what I have to work with for now. Hopefully our next house will allow me to put them along a longer wall to give them more room to breath. Going to see what I can do about getting the rack out of there and moving them away from the side walls. I might be able to get a few room treatments. Should they go along the wall or behind the speakers?

+1 on the addition of a DAC, the right one makes a huge improvement!!! Also ( i assume the denon is used as pre) up grade to better pre and a big improvment can be had as well. But still a nice system.

Yeah, those SDA's are not set-up properly at all. I'm sure they sound decent but you don't have any idea what you are missing by having them crammed in each corner of the room. Eh, the amp could be better but it's probably better than just using a receiver by itself. A real pre-amp would serve you better than an avr and a linear power supply for the Touch helps.

How far off is the new house? People say that all the time, "when I get a new house" and they end up staying in the current house for 10 more years

Enjoy and don't take the criticism personally. You asked and I am being honest from my perspective. If you only did one thing, get the SDA's properly set-up if at all possible

Why not extend the cable feed so that you can try moving stuff to the long wall? You could either get the cable company out to do it which is probably not going to cost anything, or buy a coupler and some extra cable and do it yourself.

Once the speakers are set up properly you can reevaluate. The improvement may be to the point that you're satisfied enough with the sound to put off further upgrades . . . or not!

No worries. I have asked for honest feedback and I appreciate what I have gotten. No arguments from me that the equipment could all be improved, but at this time the funds won't allow it so I figure a little tweaking might help.

Thanks again to everyone for making some good suggestions. I ended up spending the day moving the entire room around and was able to fit them on the side wall giving them a ton of room on both sides and 7 feet between them. Sound is much improved and now the savings begin for a new pre-amp and DAC.
