Oh jeez, do I need a picture? Marantz CD6004:
Attachment not found.
Certainly not vintage...but it sounds great, and it has a USB input in front which lets me use my 160GB/80GB ipods to listen to Apple Lossless music files, using the player's DAC.
Which is a big deal, because I love the convenience of playing from ipod. Also, when I get a separate DAC with ipod and/or USB input, it's not gonna be cheap (I'm looking at you, Peachtree IDAC). So this player is a great way to listen to cds and files, with pretty good sound quality, without paying a lot of money.
This is a good unit. I have installed a number of the 5 disc version.B&W CM9Classé Sigma -

Im thinking about upgrading 1 of my Technics down the road. But space right now is a problem until i get a wider cabinet or a different shelf set up. And i need it to be WF as she isnt into vinyl like i am
The turntable is a 6300. I like the look of this turntable over many of the turtables they are making today.Carl -
Nice equipment

Bout to get a Marantz 2230 to go with my Yamaha NS-344. Vintage rules.

I gotta get mine from the rent's place.... It's starting to bug me not having a Marantz in the house.

Mostly just junky ones here -- not really a big fan of the Superscope-era Marantz (although the aesthetics were certainly striking).

My first tube amp was an 8B. Paid $50 for it in 1980. It had four Mullards for output tubes and GE's occupying the front end. I used it to drive my HPM60's with a 1060 integrated working as a pre. It needed to be recapped but for the most part it sounded pretty nice and converted a lot of us to tube amps. I later sold it for $375, a couple years later, to fund some other component. Anybody got one out there to sell me for $50. I was never a Marantz guy until joining this forum. I bought a very nice CD transport from @stangman67. The CD6006, of which I absolutely love!
Then, getting into the whole DAC thing, I picked up the AMP-1 for my nearfield setup.

It wasn't a lateral movement or sonic signature change. It was mind boggling at just how much change came with the introduction of the one piece of Marantz gear rhat I got. More information on the thread link below (if anyone is interested).

I swapped out my POS Logitech with generic audio card setup on my computer. Not knowing anything about DAC's but the AMP-1 is highly regarded by members in this forum and elsewhere. I gotta say, I never thought a computer audio setup could sound so good! I spend a lot of time on the computer in my office, as others do I would imagine, and it has truly been a delight!
I'm also running Acoustic Technologies FR speakers and a Polk PSWi225 sub. It looked just like the picture you posted above. It still had the caps for the bias adjusters, but lacked its cage. The emblem was placed is the same area as the one pictured. On other ones, I've seen them on the front of the transformer cover. Do I regret selling it? Oh h*ll yes! But I was living in the middle of nowhere Iowa and I could not get tubes for it and nor find anybody to properly service it. In hindsight I probably could have looked harder or learned how to service it myself. Oh, another thing, I was a broke college student at the time and quite frankly couldn't afford it. I also had a 55 Chevy and a Les Paul to feed. It gets much worse though. I could have bought the matching Model 7 pre (non-working) for $35. About the same time, in Des Moines, I think I could have bought a recapped McIntosh MC275 for $175. In those days, tube equipment was a hard sell. There was no internet then and I think that really helped their popularity by allowing one to find replacement parts, tubes and someone to service them. Well, at least I can say, "I use to own one of the those and it sounded pretty nice."
