Hey, if you combine Emo's bright sound and poor soundstage with Carver's lack of detail and huge soundstage, they'll both have a decent product.

Emotiva needs a higher end product line. They have the entry level covered, and need to offer a line of gear for those who want to step up. If they can start making better gear with better quality then consumers win, although it might hurt some other brands.
I know I'm inviting ugliness by posing this question... but what if they keep making the same PRICE level amps but Carver's involvement improves their sound? In other words, is "entry level" based on the sound or the price? And don't they already have a line of gear for those who want to "step up" in the XPR line? Or has that already been panned and dismissed?

But one should base their amp purchase decision only after careful comparision of spec sheets no?Not by actual listening.

    This explains the strange package I got in the mail today, post marked Franklin, TN. It's a C A R V E R badge that seems to fit right over the E M O T I V A nameplate on my XPA-3...

    ^^^Pics please...

The smart thing for the would be to build the Carver brand and let technology trickle down to the rest of their product lines. The Sunfire Signature line worked out very well, so I would hope there would be a Sig line from the new Carver brand as well. I don't nessesarily agree that the Carver name is harmed by this move. That will depend greatly on what Emotiva and Bob do with it.

If you love Bobs work as I do, his previous work will continue to endure. Those that never liked his gear will now have another reason to continue to do so. The real question is what happens to those that love Emo and hate Carver? There must not be many out there as the thread on the Emo forum is welcoming him like he's the second coming of Jesus or something...

On another note, given the relationship between this forum an Emo, can you imagine the uproar that would be caused if Polk bought Emo? Lmao!

We will have to wait and see what they do with Carver. My guess is another line of gear at a higher price point. Maintaining the same price point after buying another company will take forever to recoup the purchase price. Assuming the price is in the millions. Paying money to do the same thing is generally not good business. Of course, if they do try to improve the sound then doesn't that imply something was lacking? Anyway, this is just speculation. We will have to wait and see.

Naw. Still sounds like the $599 amp I bought last month. Seriously, I like what BlueFox said, this could be good for consumers. Emo gets the benefits of a really smart guy over there, Carver maybe gets a little more cash flow and his line gets even better with more R&D at his disposal. Could be a big winner for all. Except perhaps employees, they always seem to be the losers in something like this. Company A with 10,000 employees buys company B with 3,000. We usually don't end up with company A having 13,000 workers. And the China/America thing with these 2 companies, wonder what will happen there. On a side note, there may be some very nervous competitors right now with this collaboration.

Who are any of us, really? It's kind of an existential question. If my XPA-3 falls in the woods and Bob Carver's not around, does this forum still hear it suck?
