So now that Bob Carver has joined forces with Emotiva, do you think their reputation here will improve? Sounds like Carver's tech is going to make its way into future Emotiva and Sherbourn products, and Carver will be working with them on designs... and hopefully, Carver's tube amp products will benefit price-wise from Emotiva's manufacturing relationships.

(Disclaimer: I know I'm inviting the usual mockery of the brand. Just thought it was interesting and unexpected news. FLAME-SUIT ON! Heh...)
Equipment list:
Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights

Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
Epson 8500UB 1080p projector

    What's the source?

If Bob sold, he must have gotten a nice piece of the Emo brand along with the check. If Bob is running the R&D and has MAJOR input and control, it can only help them. I know Bob and Dan were well aquainted with each other towards the end of Carver Corporation in Lynwood, so though I am surprised by this news, I am not shocked...

At least my amps aren't Emo's...

Emotiva needs a higher end product line. They have the entry level covered, and need to offer a line of gear for those who want to step up. If they can start making better gear with better quality then consumers win, although it might hurt some other brands.

To tell the truth it is how Bob seems to work now. Just as Sunfire took off he sold it to Elan. It can't hurt in my eyes. He takes pride in the "Made in the USA" so I'm sure it will stay the same.

Yeah man... Just spoke with him. <sighs>

He says that Carver Llc will be treated as a separate entity, with him having creative control of things. Emotiva will benefit greatly from having Bob involved with their new designs. If Bob builds it, I will at least give it an honest listen.

One of Emo, first offerings was a rebadged Carver Digital amp, though I cannot remember which one. It was very well built and sounded pretty good actually. Their later offerings went downhill from there, and a cdp from them and an amp I heard were harsh, sterile sounding pieces. My opinion of the brand has been shared by many previous owners of the brand, including some on this forum.

As I said before, if Bob is on board and free to do what he does best, I will give those offerings a fair listen. Emotive scooping up Bob Carver is the smartest thing Emotiva could have ever done. That's like a mediocre to average football team trading for and getting Joe Montana in his prime IMHO. Now let's see just what the do with him.

I am aware of one prototype that has the potential to be an absolute game changer... I will ask Bob about it next week.

It really doesn't matter who owns 'em,it's all about who BUILDS 'em.
Pepsi owns Lays.Did it effect the way they made chips?
Either Bob designs and oversees the builds and it will be great tube product or Emo takes control and it all becomes a cheap Chinese line of tube gear to compete with Dared and Jolida et al.

Depends on how the products perform. I never really cared for any of Carver's offerings. It's the end product and the quality that really matters, not so much the name. I admit I would have a hard time buying a Hyundai or Kia automobile even though they are leaps and bounds better than they were 10-15 years ago. Still behind the competition but they cost less so that's to be expected.

Always associated Emotiva as the Hyundai and Kia of the audio world.

My guess (and it's just a hunch) is this will bring down the Carver lineage, not build up the Emotiva lineage. Time will tell.

Hey, if you combine Emo's bright sound and poor soundstage with Carver's lack of detail and huge soundstage, they'll both have a decent product.
