Btw, you should add Larry's CRS+ Stands to your sig!
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

This Japanesse Pressing of DSOTM sounds better than several Cd copies I own a European EMI version and the Remastered Release from last year. This vinyl copy sounds better with a meager Tecnics table and a $160 ortofon cartridge this one beats out my digital copies hands down.

I ended up using the Japan CD as the best source against the vinyl.I have had this for years and has always been the go to for Presence.
When i switched back and forth between the CD and the vinyl it was just like throwing a blanket over my speakers when it was the disc.Switch back and everything opened right back up.
Pretty amazing how different they sounded.
If wondering the CD was playing on a Marantz 15S2 Limited Edition and the Vinyl on a VPI Scout with a Dynavector.

I jumped one the vinyl boat about 2 years ago. There is a richer sound to it Vs. Digital. But I do like both. Some albums sound better on CD and some sound better on vinyl.

First off Neil I really like this thread you started, fun for me any ways, you all probably guessed it the vinyl copy blows the drawers of this pathetic remastered CD. BTW if you only own one R.E.O. Speedwagon this is the one, the cowskin cover Studio album before this live one is also worth a purchase.

I think this Ryko Disc Two Fer CD does not represent the Lp's well at all, the only good thing about it is you can play it in your ride Love me some Frank. A well taken care of Lp wins most times mine are all in good condition most my LP's went straight to cassete back in the day to keep them in good shape, most of these platters are in A+ condition

I came home last night to a nicely set living room and my wife drinking wine and spinning her favorite vinyl. It was a really nice moment knowing that all my efforts have paid off, and that she can enjoy my system all by herself. Vinyl experience has it's own ambiance, and there certainly is a difference between vinyl and other forms of prerecorded music. I like them all but to really immerse yourself vinyl is the way to go.

Totally agree - audio equipment should be enjoyed and used by all in the house. Otherwise it's not really part of the atmosphere or mojo or whatever you want to call it. Then equipment becomes more important than what it's designed to do - make music. Unless of course they don't treat it with care.

I've thought about going vinyl, but the idea of having to start from scratch to acquire a descent collection would be very time/money intensive. I have a million cd already. I'm sticking with computer audio as my first choice.

I grew up with vinyl. Never been without.... My digital is close but it took DIY to get there, couldn't afford what it would take to get there retail. Long live DIY!

It looks good....does just serviced mean belts too? I know the platter of the LT-20 is direct drive (mine is belt) but there are two belts for the tonearm (at top middle-right in my linked pic). They were soft, turned into a gummy paste, had to clean all the pulleys. I don't know what fair pricing is for these tables. A test drive would be nice to see it work properly. I had to do some research before tearing into mine for clean and lube.

Well it grabbed ahold and down i went.
I still use digital mainly but nothing like some vinyl.I ended up spending quite a bit but thoroughly enjoy when i take time every week or so and play it.
I would recommend using only the best sources you can find if you go there.I won't even play something that looks questionable.Only minty vinyl.

And then, I have some really good quality vinyl that make me weep at the sublime sonic goodness....

Even on my modest system, I just love the sound of vinyl.

I played ZZ Top's "First Album" (original pressing) for my dad a few months ago and he was blown away with how good it sounds. He just looked at me and said "vinyl did not sound this good back in my day"! I laughed and handed him the album cover and told him it was PRESSED in his day!

Another Planet P fan awesome, do you have a copy of the first one at all? If not you being a fellow polkie and Tony Carey fan, I would be more than happy to send you a digital copy just shoot me a PM. The CD copy is still pretty good, it is not as warm as the LP but still decent. the Song Why Me is worth owning it alone, a desert island lp for sure so shoot me a PM indyhawg.

I just bought the Planet P, Pink World CD about 3 weeks ago. I knew a couple of Tony Carey songs from years ago (Fine, Fine Day and Why Me) but I never heard of the Pink World album until a friend played it for me recently. What a great album! My only regret is that didn't know about this album about 29 years ago.
