New Harman Kardon amp!!!

Ok, I just picked up my very first dedicated separate amp. It's certainly not new, just new to me. It's an HK Citation 22. My question is on setup. My speakers are SDA SRS 2. I think I've heard they are rated at 6 ohms? So the amp has a setting to select either 8 ohm or 6 ohm. Which should I use? Also, the amp has a lug for ground. Short of driving a ground rod through my basement floor, what should I connect this to?

Thanks for helping with my elementary questions!

Sorry, correction. The amp has setting to select either 8 ohms or 4 ohms. Which should I choose?

4 ohms but you can try both and see which you like the best.

I tried 4 and 8 ohms on my 8 ohm LS90s, 8 ohm sounded much better.

There will be more power available in the 8 ohm mode but that could result in excessive heat generated in the ouput section if driving lower impedance speakers hard.Switching the selector to 4 ohm mode lowers the main rail voltages so less heat will be generated( safer operating temp range for output transistors)but also results in a reduction in peak power.

my bad, another correction. This link:

    http://www.polksda.com/sdasrs2.shtml

Says that the speakers are 4 ohm. So I should set the amp selctor from 8 ohm to 4 ohm, correct?

I tried it last night on both settings, and the 8 ohm seemed to offer much more umpf.

I guess I am in danger of damaging equipment in the 8 ohm setting?

I think you would be fine at 8 Ohms for moderate listening and 4 Ohms for rocking out....IMO.

I would set it at 4 ohms. You should notice more heat with it set at 8 ohms.
