    Go with a new cartridge. I like Grados - pick your price point. Not 100% sure a Grado will be happy in a 6100 (someone here or at AK will know). I also like the Shure M97xe - sounds good, tracks well and the price is right. FWIW, I am not an Audio Technica fan. You could also consider an HOMC such as the reasonably inexpensive Denon DL-110 for that arm.

    I just moved from a MX97E to a Grado Sonata. Big step up in sound and in price. As a starter budget cartridge, you just can't go wrong with the MX97E if it fits your tonearm. With your budget of $150, you'll have enough leftover to go hit a used record shop and load up.
    Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
